Courage. Heroism. Calm under pressure. A 17-year-old student facing an emergency in the skies. A calm voice guiding her safely to the ground. People coming together in a moment of crisis, each doing their part. Every day, crises are averted, lives are saved, and tragedies are prevented because good people step up and do extraordinary things. May we remember the legions of dedicated professionals, everyday heroes, and decent people whose quiet acts of courage and service rarely make headlines but make our world safer and stronger. They are all around us. May we see them. May we celebrate them. May we be them..

Here’s to humankind at its best, when we are both human and kind. Here’s to compassion that knows no boundaries, to grace extended to all living things, especially the vulnerable and those in need. Here’s to those who go out of their way, who see suffering and refuse to look away, who see a creature in distress and choose to act. May we see more of this. May we be more like this. Op: Sassy

Here is to this man who saw a crisis and leapt into action. Who didn’t hesitate, didn’t look away, but stepped forward to help. Too often, those who command our attention are the villains. Their acts of cruelty, their crimes, and the suffering they cause dominate our headlines, our feeds, and our conversations. But all around us, often unnoticed by our algorithms and media, are good people doing good things. People whose daily acts of kindness, courage, decency, and grace are the true strength of our communities. They are teachers and mentors. First responders and medical workers. They are our neighbors, our friends, and everyday people like this man who see a need and step up, who see danger and act, who see suffering and seek to ease it. These are the humble heroes who make our communities safer, stronger, and more caring. They are the ones who should define our story. May we celebrate them. May we elevate them. And may we be more like them. op: @abc7la

Students from North Carolina A&T—the state’s biggest HBCU—along with Bennett College and UNC Greensboro just marched 45 minutes to vote after early voting was cut from their campuses. Like these students, we must lace up our shoes, roll up our sleeves, and do the work to defend our democracy. We must organize, mobilize, and vote - and we must help every eligible American do the same. op: @thehumanityarchive

All across our country, there are good people who every day step up, step forward, and step into the breach to help others. Our algorithms too often amplify outrage and division. Our media too often elevates the cruel, the demeaning, and the degrading. But the truth is, our nation is filled with humble heroes. Everyday people who see someone in need and act. Who don’t hesitate to help. Who don’t ask what religion someone practices, what race they are, or what political party they belong to. They act because they recognize our common humanity, because they see the dignity and worth in others, because kindness and decency are stronger than the divisions that too often dominate our attention. This woman and the nurses she rallied remind us that heroes are all around us. And that when we come together, we can literally save lives. May we see more of this. May we be more of this. This is the America I believe in. When barriers go up, our young people don’t back down—they organize, they mobilize, and they show up to vote. Proud of the students at North Carolina A&T, UNCG, Bennett, and Greensboro College who marched to the polls. Mobilizing and getting out the vote is how we protect our democracy. Op: Isaiah Martin

Elon Musk just poured $276 million into the midterms to try to buy the outcome. Our democracy was built on “We the People,” not the biggest checkbook. The only answer is for all of us to mobilize, organize, and vote like everything is on the line—because it is. Op: @donlemonofficial

Listen to Jay Bilas . College athletes create enormous economic value for schools, conferences, the NCAA, broadcasters, media companies, and more. It’s fundamentally unfair to restrict athletes’ rights while leaving other powerful actors in the college sports ecosystem largely unconstrained. op: Youth Inc.

Social Security is a sacred contract Americans have earned through a lifetime of hard work, not a piggy bank for politicians. Trump and Republicans are pushing reckless cuts that put seniors’ security at risk. In these midterms, we the people must mobilize and organize to stop them. op: @pullupspastapolitics

I was in Israel when the horrific attacks carried out by Hamas started on Saturday. My team and I are now safe, but like many we are shaken, angered, and heartbroken by the hundreds killed, the thousands injured, those taken hostage, and all who are directly affected by these sickening terrorist attacks. After this experience, more than ever, I am committed to working with my colleagues in the Senate to continue supporting Israel’s security and ensuring stability in the region — and I hope one day soon, a long-term and just peace in the region.

Here is to extraordinary acts of kindness, unexpected acts of grace, and those who give of themselves with no expectation of anything in return. This young man saw a stranger in need and gave him the shoes off his own feet. But what began as an act of generosity became something even more beautiful: a friendship. May his grace ignite our own. May his example inspire others. May we see more of this. May we be more like him. op: CBS Evening News with Tony Dokoupil

Donald Trump is a criminal who has already undermined one election—and he is very likely to try to undermine another. This is a moral moment for our nation. We must stand up, speak out, and defend our democracy with everything we’ve got—because the stakes for our republic could not be higher. op: MeidasTouch

Here's to the people who run in when others run out. Who step up when others are at their lowest moments. We are a nation that is not defined by our villains. We should never let them become the main characters in our story. Our nation is strong because in every community, in every neighborhood, there are people who help, who heal, who go the extra mile for others. And sometimes, in the midst of a raging fire, they save a life. These are the humble heroes who embody the defining spirit of our nation. They are the ones who embody that defining ethos and that constant call: to love your neighbor. We need more people who live with that spirit. Who refuse to surrender to cynicism. Who have an indomitable will to serve, an invincible determination to bring hope in the face of despair, and the courage to act when others are in need. May we see more of this. May we be more of this.

Here’s to a celebration of life, of music, of art, of creativity, and of the beautiful power of inclusion. When we come together across our differences, when we recognize the gifts and talents in each other, we create something greater than any one of us could create alone. Like a marching band, we make better music when everyone has a part to play, when every person is valued, when every gift is welcomed, and every voice is heard. We are a stronger people, a better nation, and a more beautiful world when we recognize the dignity, worth, and extraordinary potential in one another. This is the power of a beloved community. May we see more of this. May we be more like this.

Here’s to young heroes. To children whose courage, presence of mind, and instinct to help remind us that even the youngest among us can rise to extraordinary moments. When their mother collapsed, these two children didn’t just witness a crisis. They stepped up. They took action. They called for help. And here’s to the extraordinary first responders who answered that call. To the family that surrounded these children with love. To the communities of caring that remind us that none of us stands alone. We are bound together by ties of compassion, service, and love. These connections don’t just reflect our humanity. They help define it. What could have been an even greater tragedy was made better by the courage of two little children and the people who came to their aid. God bless these young heroes. May they always know how special they are, how much their courage mattered, and how much this world needs the light they showed in a moment of darkness. May we see more of this. May we be more like this. op: @davidjustinn
