Where an individual’s livelihood depends upon the continued success of the organisation that employs them, it is reasonable to expect that they would wish to remain contactable at all times in the event of an emergency. In such circumstances, the job that is preserved may well be their own. Albanese’s stance simply demonstrates a lack of understanding. A socialist mentality, that doesn’t understand wealth needs to be created. Arrangements for work outside normal hours should be determined according to the circumstances of each individual case and left for the employer and employee to agree. They don’t need government interference. Consider a doctor who cares for pregnant women informing a patient that she should not have her baby at the weekend because the doctor chooses to disconnect then. The doctor is free to make that choice; likewise, the expectant mother should be free to seek another doctor.

Six strokes for the first offence, doubling for each subsequent offence. You’d only need to cane a few and post the videos on social media—and watch crime levels plummet overnight. It sounds harsh, but I’d argue that it’s actually less detrimental to a teenager than locking them up in an institution with other criminals. With crime out of control in Victoria, it’s time for a change in attitude. Do you agree?
