After a text from her daughter about CrossFit, Silvia decided to check out CrossFit Watsonville — and it changed her, not just physically, but mentally. While most people think of CrossFit as a physical thing, for Silvia, it was mental: CrossFit saved her. The community welcomed her immediately and supported her through a difficult time. Growing up in Costa Rica in an abusive, poverty-stricken household, Haydee Reyes learned early how to endure. She carried that resilience with her when she moved to the United States — where she eventually found CrossFit. At Mako CrossFit, she discovered more than a workout; she became part of a community.
