Inspired by Phillip Isola’s post today on doing a PhD in the age of AI (highly recommended!), I share some thoughts on how to email a professor about joining their lab. It’s a first cut, one person’s perspective, and meant to be a living document and discussion starter. Add your perspective via Margin Notes!

Visualization of the day: Eigenfaces When I started #computervision research as an undergrad, eigenfaces were the rage. The pioneering work of Sirovich & Kirby and Pentland & Turk was everywhere. So much great related work by Allan Jepson, David Fleet, Michael Black, and multidimensional extensions by M. Alex O. Vasilescu! A fun one to revisit.
