Head's up! In 3DGS we completely skip the normalization factor since we don't really care to be a normalized PDF :)

Oh I know, I definitely KNOW! When I first read the splatting paper I was so confused at first because I assumed the norm factor was there 😅 I was taught by my supervisor, Gaussians are by definition normalized, unnormalized are not Gaussians but Gaussian-like 😉 So in the lecture I’m planning, I first start with the definition of a Gaussian and then point out the normalization factor is dropped.
