WATCH: Wednesday’s ‘CBS Mornings’ opened with 78 seconds addressing the decision by editor-in-chief Bari Weiss and new ‘60 Minutes’ executive producer Nick Bilton to fire Scott Pelley for insubordination... Vladimir Duthiers: “All right, before we get to the news this morning, we want to share with you some news about ourselves and long-time 60 Minutes correspondent, Scott Pelley. On Monday, new executive producer Nick Bilton called an all-hands meeting to introduce himself to the staff. That meeting became contentious when Pelley publicly questioned the management decisions regarding the replacement of the former 60 Minutes executive producer, Tanya Simon, and publicly criticized the decisions of CBS News management on the future direction of 60 Minutes. According to CBS News management, efforts were made to see if both sides could reach common ground. Pelley met with senior management of CBS News last night, and no agreement could be reached. Pelley was then informed by 60 Minutes executive producer Nick Bilton that CBS News and 60 Minutes would have to part ways with Scott. He was terminated for cause. Scott Pelley released a statement which expressed his ‘gratitude for the men and women of CBS News who encouraged and enriched my work very often at the risk of their own lives.’ Pelley went on to say, ‘I pray for a day when those people and their ideals are honored again, a day when sanity, competence, and courage return.’ In a letter to the staff, Bilton stated, ‘What I will commit to this is this: my unyielding support for each of you and the journalism that you do and what we will do together going forward.’” Nate Burleson: “Yeah, we know his impact on journalism and this network is undeniable.”

POWERFUL: Batya Ungar-Sargon SLAMS Graham Platner and Democrats lining up to defend him... "Well, I'll just say my grandfather's whole family was murdered in the Sobibor concentration camp. Graham Platner doesn't just have a Nazi tattoo. For 18 years, he had a tattoo of the concentration camp guards on his chest, and he knew what it was. He knew what it was. And to hear people compare that to anything else in the public sphere in America is insane. And it is insanely offensive. These people who are defending him called me, and every other MAGA person a Nazi for ten years, because we voted for someone who we thought would improve the lives of working-class Americans, and now they are lining up and defending a guy who had a Nazi tattoo -- which he knew about -- for 18 years. IRONY ALERT from Jake Tapper, perhaps one of the few people who has an ego on par with Scott Pelley... “So, I don’t cover news media a lot on the show. I don’t — I think it’s — I generally think it’s naval gazing. I generally think that we have so much to cover. But this story felt different. It felt a little different with Sharyn and Cecilia and the executive producer last week. And then this — this very public kerfuffle with Scott Pelley. Then, current ‘CBS Evening News’ anchor Tony Dokoupil had a lengthy, fawning commentary about how Pelley was “a man from another era” and “valued truth at all costs” who met “every new correspondent to share his view of the mission here” that “freedom of the press, to quote Madison, was ‘the right that guaranteed all the others.’ And the stakes are always that high.” “He worked every single day to live up to that standard.” Touting his travels to Afghanistan and Iraq, Syria, and Africa, Dokoupil showed Pelley led by example to covering hot spots “not from the studio, but from the field...dozens of times” He later concluded: “There were also presidential interviews, of course, from Bush to Biden. And more than 50 Emmy awards along the way. He was, in some ways, a man from another era, and that's not a knock. He didn't watch the competition, he said, because he knew who he was. A journalist who valued truth at all costs. And always kept alive the memory of colleagues killed in the field. A reminder that his chosen line of work could be a dangerous one. But Pelley also made one major break from the past. He changed the signs around here. Former CBS correspondent-turned-MeidasTouch pundit Scott MacFarlane scoffs at the notion found in polls Americans don’t trust the media... “I would venture the bold prediction that, if Americans were surveyed about the trustworthiness of 60 Minutes, it may have more support and more trust, more credibility with Americans than the general milquetoast term “media.” What is the media at this point that they’re being polled on? Are they talking about specific programs, specific sources of information? Are they talking about the garbage on the internet, the garbage on talk radio? Are they talking about the actual verified, bonafide source sources of journalism? The ones who actually have credibility and empirical evidence to back up their reporting. This all feels to me like apples and oranges.”

CNN's Scott Jennings on Virginia's Democrat gerrymander: "Virginia had -- literally had the fairest maps in the nation. They had a 6-5 map, six Democrats, five Republicans. In terms of proportional representation, they had the fairest map in the nation. That was drawn, by the way, by an independent commission that the voters asked for just a few years ago. Now they will have the least fair maps in the nation. And I'm not surprised that the yes vote won. They had all the money and all the lies. And sometimes in politics, when you got those two things, you can put something over the line, even something as egregious as this. This whole thing has driven Spanberger's approval ratings down into the toilet. She lied to the people of Virginia. They had to write a ballot question that was a joke. They drew maps that were a joke. Now you're going to have huge chunks of rural Virginia represented by 5 or 6 Democrats who all live in Northern Virginia, within about 15 miles of each other. It's a complete joke. Everybody knows it. And there's a reason that all these national Democrats and all their money came into Virginia, because, you know, they don't really care about the people of Virginia. They just care about power."

He’s now been charged a second time, this time over a social media post with seashells that said 8647. Do you really think that he was endangering your life or threatening your life with that post?” President Trump: “Well, if anybody knows anything about crime, they know — 86. You know what that’s a mob term for? Kill him, you know. Do you ever see the movies? 86 him. The mobster says to one of his wonderful associates, 86 him. That means kill him. It’s I think of it as a mob term. I don’t know if people think of it as something having to do with disappearing, but the mob uses that term to say, when they want to kill somebody, they say, 86 the son of a gun. I’m trying to keep the language nice and clear. They don’t use that term son of a gun. They use another term, but that’s a mob term for killing. Yeah.” Collins: “But do you really think your life was in danger? Because —” Trump: “Probably, I don’t know, you know, based on — based on what I’m seeing out there. Yeah.” Collins: “— the seashells?” Trump: “The — the people like Comey have created tremendous danger, I think, for politicians and others. You know, Comey is a dirty cop. He’s a very dirty cop. He cheated on the elections. He tried to help Hillary Clinton. As you know, he dismissed a lot of things that he should have proceeded with. Former CBS News correspondent-turned-MeidasTouch host Scott Scott MacFarlane on Scott Pelley being fired from CBS.... “Nobody wins if 60 Minutes is damaged through this. Nobody wins. It’s still one of those rare media entities, Jake, that can cut through the noise and cut through the clutter. Scott Pelley was, I think, the living Mount Rushmore at CBS News when we worked together. I mean, I wasn’t called Scott in the office. I was called Scotty Mac, McFarland, or, hey, you, come over here because Scott Pelley was Scott. That’s the reverence with which he was held at CBS News. I’m surprised that anybody would get rid of a transcendent personality who can attract an audience or who is associated with the strength of a brand. You watch Scott Pelley on 60 Minutes. You knew you were going to get a comprehensive report. You never want to damage a brand by getting rid of the pillar of the entity. But there’s some good news for the show and for CBS. The new product, whatever it looks like, whatever it sounds like in September, will be sampled. It still comes on after NFL football. It still has tens of millions of people who will, if nothing else, trip into watching the show because it comes on after Patrick Mahomes. They have a big responsibility to make sure it does not become the New Coke or the Crystal Pepsi of 60 Minutes.”

CNN's Van Jones was not a fan of Zohran Mamdani's angry, far-left, rage-filled victory speech: "I think he missed an opportunity. I think the Mamdani that we saw in the campaign trail, who was a lot more calm, who was a lot warmer, who was a lot more embracing, was not present in that speech. And I think that Mamdani is the one you need to hear from tonight. There are a lot of people trying to figure out, can I get on this train with him or not? Is he going to include me? Is he going -- is he -- is he going to be more of a class warrior even in office? I think he missed a chance tonight to to open up and bring more people into the tent. I think his tone was sharp. I think he was using the microphone in a way that he was almost yelling. And that's not the Mamdani that we've seen on Tiktok and the great interviews and stuff like that." "So, I felt like it was a little bit of a character switch here, where the warm, open, embracing guy that's close to working people was not on stage tonight. And there were some some other voice on stage. That said, he's very young. And he just pulled off something very, very difficult. And I wouldn't write him off, but I think he missed an opportunity to open himself up tonight. And I think that that will probably cost him going forward."

CNN’s Jake Tapper says journalists and comedians like Jimmy Kimmel are not the ones hurling incendiary rhetoric and are not irresponsible for the rise of political violence... “It is a big problem of calls for violence and dehumanization, and it’s getting worse. But it is not a problem to be wielded like a cudgel to try to stop journalism or jokes. Journalism and jokes are not calls for violence, calls for violence are calls for violence, and far too many Americans in positions of power and influence are too blasé and too glib about those who make them.”
