Will McEvoy on why Cypherpunk went all-in on Zcash: "Cameron and Tyler have been following Zcash since 2016, when it launched. I joined up with them a little more than four years ago. We've been investing in AI, defense and longevity, and the through line is AI" "One of the core observations we made is that AI is extremely powerful from a surveillance perspective. We're in a structural decline in privacy, really since the advent of the internet. Phones, social media, comms apps, AI is just the latest step down" "Zcash was the first and largest production version of zero knowledge proofs, which Satoshi talks about early on, if something like ZK could be put into production, that would be a massive feature improvement to Bitcoin" "Privacy is a prerequisite to the Bill of Rights here in the United States. Privacy is core to being an American" "Bitcoin's great. It's what got me into the space. It's a massive technological revolution. But it's not private. That's why we launched Cypherpunk"

Will McEvoy on the Zcash mining opportunity: "There is a massive opportunity in Zcash mining. It is extremely profitable" "So many Bitcoin miners unplugged their machines, outfitted their data centers for AI and HPC, and said: come plug in your GPUs and pay us for that" "AI colocation was definitely a good step up for them, but it is nowhere close to Zcash mining"

"We may be in a moment in time where we have the least amount of privacy... maybe ever... In that environment, you can think about privacy as a very scarce asset... When supply is decreasing, it's very likely that the price should be a lot higher." -- Will McEvoy

.mert on the privacy comeback: "Privacy was literally deemed dead in crypto. It wasn't mentioned anywhere. Now, privacy protocols across every ecosystem are getting funded. Privacy gives you more freedom, more choice, instead of being surveilled forever." Zcash started this.

.Arjun Khemani: "With a credit card, your credit card provider knows about it, and you trust them enough to not leak the information to everybody else. But with Bitcoin, not only does the government know about it, but every red team in the world knows about it too."
