"My grown children shouldn’t be held back or kept around forever. Good parenting means encouraging them to venture out, build relationships, and find their place among fellow Ugandans. Yet some cultural institutions act like possessive parents, saying, 'Muri bantu bange, mutagenda hara!' ('You are my people; don't go far.') That is bad parenting—denying people meaningful relationships simply out of fear of losing control over them."- President Yoweri K Museveni. #MonitorUpdates

A woman broke into tears at Wakiso Central Daily Market after discovering she had been left off the new stall allocation list—despite allegedly paying a Shs2 million bribe to the former market leadership. The revelation came as Minister for Local Government, Balaam Barugahara, dissolved the old market committee and installed interim leadership. The minister established that the former executives had sidelined genuine local vendors, instead selling off stalls to individuals who paid bribes. Wakiso District secured World Bank funding to construct a modern market accommodating nearly 800 vendors. A temporary structure has been set up to host the traders while construction gets underway. #MonitorUpdates 📹 Noeline Nabukenya

UPDATE: Prince Patrick Mpuuga and Prince Solomon Nyaika, sons of Omusuuga Charles Karumasi, have accused self-interested individuals of hijacking their father and using him to advance their own agenda. They say their father retired during last year’s coronation anniversary, after which the process of identifying and installing a new Musuuga was expected to begin. The princes further argue that the will left by the late King Oyo is binding on all parties involved in the succession dispute. They also challenge the suggestion that a king can be elected, arguing that monarchs are not chosen through voting. Their comments come amid a succession row following the appointment of Prince Edward Kijanangoma Rukidi as the new King of Tooro. #MonitorUpdates 📹: onyango jackson

UPDATE: Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court has read charges against and remanded Ismail Osena, a KCCA enforcement officer, following allegations that he sexually assaulted a first year university student under the guise of law enforcement. According to the prosecution, the victim was initially intercepted by KCCA enforcers for walking on the city's prohibited green grass. The officers allegedly demanded a bribe of Shs 100,000, which the student could not afford, alongside a punitive demand to fetch 50 jerrycans of water. Investigators state that under the pretext of escorting her to official detention offices, Osena and a colleague, identified as Julius Mukisa, instead diverted the victim to a guest house. There, Osena allegedly forced himself upon her without her consent. State prosecutors further allege that after the sexual assault, Osena used his mobile phone to take naked photographs of the traumatised victim. #MonitorUpdates 📹: Abubaker Lubowa
