WATCH: Government has resolved to return vehicles impounded under the crackdown on Dangerous Mechanical Condition (DMC) vehicles to their owners for immediate repairs. WATCH: Members of the Basiita clan on Friday made a cultural announcement following the death of Tooro King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV. The announcement followed a directive by Omujwera Musuuga Charles Kamurasi, head of the Babiito royal clan and uncle to the late King Oyo. The Basiita gathered at a kaswa, a small raised hill, where they sounded an alarm to notify subjects of the Tooro Kingdom about the death of the King. UPDATE: Two Works and Transport Ministry officials, including a valuer and a surveyor, have been arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit on the orders of Works and Transport Minister Fred Byamukama over alleged failure to provide detailed information on compensation rates. Byamukama says inflated compensation rates are causing the government huge financial losses. He raised concern after discovering several new buildings had been constructed in Membe and Lufuka in Mpigi, areas through which the Kisubi-Nakawuka-Nateete-Kasanje-Mpigi road is expected to pass. UPDATE: Works and Transport Minister Fred Byamukama has threatened to arrest more ministry officials accused of colluding with land dealers to erect new structures along planned road projects in a bid to secure large compensation payouts. In Mpigi District, three land dealers have been identified, and security agencies have been instructed to apprehend them. The Kisubi-Nakawuka-Nateete-Kasanje-Mpigi road project was allocated Shs430 billion for compensation of project-affected persons, exceeding the Shs340.5 billion contract sum for construction of the road.
