It is most disappointing that this came from a member of the Opposition. Let me state on behalf of all Jamaicans that we are grateful for the extensive work being done by volunteers across Western Jamaica. I know exactly where this is headed given the announcements and theatre that took place earlier and will only state that my focus will be isolated to relief matters only. Absolutely disgraceful!

🚨Update: As of 5am Saturday 6th June approximately 500 thousand customers of just under 700 thousand customers have been restored across all parishes overnight. It is expected the remaining affected customers will be restored by early this morning. I have called an emergency meeting with JPS for noon today at the jps command center which will be followed by a press briefing. I have been closely monitoring the situation all night and will continue to do so until full restoration is completed. I commit to keeping the nation advised and updated on this UNACCEPTABLE SITUATION.

#Update Get used to hearing #SchoolazOnly because the first set of Rural School Buses have arrived in Jamaica and are were offloaded from the vessels this morning. This project will not only directly tackle absenteeism, but will also provide a safe, efficient, affordable and reliable and dedicated transport option for students in ALL Rural parishes. A flat fare of $50 will apply regardless of the route travelled. Phase 1 will see the importation of 110 buses completed by mid July, with a commitment from this Government to expand the service ny purchasing another 200-300 buses within another 2 years to serve the remaining schools. #ChooseJamaica #SchoolazOnly #CommitmentMade #CommitmentKept #PerformanceOverPropaganda

Meeting now set for 2pm. Given that restoration has been completed according to the utility provider, the next update will be given at the Media Briefing. As I said, what is being done in our Parliament now is beyond detestable. Dr Peter Blair-Henry received his PhD in economics from MIT and bachelor’s degrees from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. Senator Thame appears not to be aware that Dr Henry served on President Obama’s transition team in 2008, specifically on the economic policy working group as Obama prepared to take office during the height of the financial crisis. He was part of a group of economists advising the incoming administration on how to respond to the global economic meltdown. A Jamaican from Kingston Jamaica who is globally recognized and respected for his work. A very disappointing statement.

This video, of the CCTV camera inside the bus, shows the impact on the driver and the student following the accident. The buses are built for the protection of our students. The driver logs and the CCTV footage is also available and will be handed over to law enforcement. Thankfully no injuries were suffered on the Rural School Bus.
