Those who say that the current wave of abductions and arrests of National Unity Platform supporters are either visitors to Uganda or they're simply devoid of critical thinking. Here are some questions: 1. We have seen NRM supporters and apologists on several occasions conducting parades and drills. At times, they go as far as using weapons and putting on military fatigues during those drills. When are they being picked up? 2. What amounts to an illegal parade? What's the difference between a parade conducted by scouts/guides, schools, churches (abasirikare ba Paapa) etc and one conducted by members of a legitimate political party dressed in their party uniform? 3. If an alleged offence was committed, why are the suspects not summoned or arrested in accordance with the law? Why are they waylaid, abducted, tortured and held incommunicado? Also, if an offence was allegedly committed in February and these comrades have been available everyday, why is the regime picking them up now that we're getting close to an election? Moreover, some of the people being picked up were never present at that gathering! 4. Between 2019 and 2021, before and after the last election, the regime abducted more than 4,000 NUP supporters. Some were maimed, while others were killed. 18 are still missing. Had they participated in a parade? That time, the excuse was red berets which did not violate any law. Now they're trying to create another excuse. Even after the election, many more have been abducted and arrested over funny reasons, including Eddie Mutwe and team who allegedly stole a jumper and were charged with aggravated robbery! Therefore, anyone can see that this is nothing short of the continuing PERSECUTION of the regime’s political opponents. #FreeUganda
