I think a lot about Obama promising in 2003 to push Medicare For All as soon as Dems had the White House & Congress - and then his first health care decision as president was deploying aides to tell America that Medicare For All would not be even discussed in the ACA debate.

It's true: the faction of Corporate Dems & Neocon Republicans led by folks like Third Way, Matthew Yglesias, @NeeraTanden, @SarahLongwell etc won't ever stop trying to destroy the populist uprising in the Dem Party. That faction is indeed best summarized by this Terminator line

I’m at the victory party for my friend Phil Weiser. In his victory speech, Weiser declares a big voter mandate, saying “the future of Colorado will not be decided by out of state billionaires” and pledges to get corporate money out of politics. The revolution continues.

🚨NEW: Dr. Abdul El-Sayed responds to Dem powerbrokers saying it’s too dangerous for him to be Dems’ Senate nominee: “If you’re Chuck Schumer, I’m dangerous. If you’re AIPAC, I’m dangerous. If you’re a corporate PAC, I’m dangerous. If you’re Blue Cross Blue Shield’s CEO, I’m pretty damn dangerous.”

A fundamental problem in the Democratic Party is that it now has vanishingly few politicians who can articulate this kind of point as cogently as the Republican VP candidate did here.

My interview with Tim Walz is getting lots of attention for what he said about the genocide & Liz Cheney. But this comment is just as newsy and he’s absolutely right: If Dems repeat their betrayals, they’ll create conditions for a worse version of Trump

🔥 Ro Khanna campaigning for Dr. Abdul El-Sayed: “The last people who have any right to lecture us about electability are the establishment who lost to Donald Trump twice. I don’t want to hear it. If you had anything to do with those campaigns, please sit down or exit stage left.”

Destroying the @InternetArchive's @WayBackMachine would be the equivalent of the burning of the Library of Alexandria - one of the worst losses of knowledge in history. Media giants are now threatening to do this. We can't let this happen. Pass it on.

This didn't hold up & I'm still wondering why Ezra insisted on publicly declaring this a few months ago at exactly the moment lawmakers were trying to force the release of Epstein's files. What explains the impulse to provide NYT cover for powerful people?

In light of the Trump administration announcing it will livestream an execution, I'd like to remind you that in the 1980s, they literally made a dark comedy about an opportunistic politician (played by Ned Beatty) trying to win an election by live broadcasting an execution.

I just spoke with Graham Platner for Senate about Tucker Carlson telling the NY Times' Lulu NYT he wants to meet Platner. I asked Platner if he'd appear on Tucker's show - and how he thinks about engaging with conservative media. Full interview will be on The Lever's YouTube page.

Since both political parties and the donor class decided today is Paramount Oligarch Day, it seems like a good moment to post this before it is erased from the world by the media overlords. This scene was supposed to be a cautionary tale. It became America's dominant ideology.

Today's media apocalypse makes it a good day for everyone to watch this 1998 SNL animation that Robert Smigel and Adam McKay managed to get on national TV once, before it was yanked off the air forever.

The best part of this clip is 4 seconds in when the camera quickly goes back to @EzraKlein and he's rightly gaping at Trump's former deputy national security adviser in just utter disbelief. I laughed out loud. Whoever made that camera cut decision - excellent work.

Key point from Morris Katz about how Dems breaking their populist promises can harm the national Dem brand & harm Dem candidates everywhere. He cites NY-7 candidate Antonio Reynoso who casts himself as a progressive but also broke his pledge to not take real estate cash.

Did a weightlifting/interview session with Dr. Abdul El-Sayed early this morning. I was absurdly outmatched. The dude was gracious — he did not weak-shame me. Here we discussed his time at the University of Michigan.

With today's passing of Alan Greenspan, the one thing you are obligated to do is watch this C-Span clip of Greenspan being utterly destroyed by Bernie Sanders, at a time when every other lawmaker was praising Greenspan as a hero as he created conditions for the financial crisis.
