🇷🇺🇺🇦🇨🇴 Ukrainians abandoned a group of Colombian mercenaries near Kupyansk, who died without water or food. Only one soldier survived and surrendered to Russian forces. Andres Serra came to Ukraine to fight on the side of the Ukrainian army. Along with other Latin American mercenaries, he was stationed near Kupyansk, an area where South American mercenaries, including Colombians, have repeatedly been wiped out. Serra served in a battalion alongside other Colombians. Ukrainian command promised to support and supply them, but in practice used them as expendable manpower. The Latin Americans died of hunger and dehydration in the forests of Kharkov region. Serra was the only one who survived. He surrendered to Russian forces. It later emerged he'd served as a sniper, documents belonging to his fellow soldiers, bank cards, and other items were found on him. But as it turn out "sniper" and "20/100 uncorrected vision with astigmatism" don't exactly go together. This mercenary needed glasses just to read the eye chart, and somehow ended up in a Ukrainian sniper unit.

🇺🇦⚔️🇺🇦 The Man Zelensky Picked to Fight Corruption Is Now Missing, After Tapes Say He Was Running It The Ukrainian National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) released the first wiretaps from "Operation Carthage," implicating senior officials at the Prosecutor General's Office (OGP) in running protection for fraudulent call centers. The alleged ringleader, codenamed "Chancellor" in the tapes, is Sergey Kropiva, head of the OGP's Cyber Department, who was arrested yesterday. According to the recordings, Kropiva ran a protection racket for call centers loyal to him, while using the Prosecutor General's Office itself to raid and shut down rival call centers that weren't paying in. Whenever his aide found a call center outside their network, the Prosecutor General's Office would search it the next day and shut it down. Textbook competitor elimination, dressed up as law enforcement. Very Ukraine-like. The tapes also show Kropiva meeting with people wanted internationally for cybercrimes, and separately coaching call center owners on how to handle questioning from Czech intelligence after a previous crackdown, including briefing them in advance on what the Czechs would ask. Then there's the personal side. Kropiva is heard complaining to his mistress, codenamed "Muza," that she posts their gifts on Instagram too often. Her reply: now she has to delete everything because there's expensive stuff in every photo. The haul reportedly includes a Hermès Birkin (~€20,000), a Messika pendant (€5-6k), an Audemars Piguet watch ($60,000), a Porsche, and furs. ⚠️ The codename for the boss overseeing all this is "Shef," widely understood in the tapes to be Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko himself. Here's why this matters beyond one dirty cyber chief: Kravchenko's office is Zelensky's single strongest institutional weapon against NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP). It's also the office that just days ago publicly backed the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in its standoff with the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR), branding the man GUR was protecting a "Russian agent." That made the Prosecutor General's Office a frontline player in the broader SBU-versus-GUR split we covered yesterday (in the post linked below 👇). Now NABU has landed a direct hit on that same office, with search warrants naming Kravchenko, his deputy Maria Vdovichenko, and Odessa military administration head Oleg Kiper, a Zelensky appointee installed after a Budanov-aligned predecessor was removed. As of this post, nobody can locate Kravchenko. He was last seen entering the government quarter after the searches began. Kiev commentators are already joking that they should check the morgue on the second floor of building four.

“It is clear that the United Kingdom is on a path of decline, however, the future of Argentina is flourishing and will prevail.” — Javier Milei Milei also stated that Argentina is rich in natural resources that is unaffected by uncontrolled immigration, violence, and the security problems plaguing Europe. His comments come amid a large shift in the international conversation surrounding the Islas Malvinas (Falkland Islands). Donald Trump confirmed this week that the United States is reviewing its longstanding position on the Malvinas, and when subsequently asked whether Washington would come to Britain’s aid in another conflict over the islands, declined to commit to doing so. Milei has now announced new measures targeting British exploitation of oil around the disputed islands and says Argentina will strengthen its military presence in the South Atlantic.

🇷🇺 Bronze statues rises over the Amur — Russia unveils massive monument to victory over Imperial Japan A 15-meter bronze Soviet soldier has been unveiled on the banks of the Amur River in Khabarovsk, commemorating the Soviet victory over militarist Japan and the end of World War II. The soldier is depicted smashing a border marker bearing the chrysanthemum, a symbol of Imperial Japan, with the butt of his rifle. Residents of Khabarovsk have already given the giant soldier a name: Ivan. The memorial honors the Soviet forces that crushed the Kwantung Army in August 1945, liberated Northeast China and northern Korea, and retook southern Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands. The names of the Far Eastern fronts, Transbaikal Front, Pacific Fleet and Amur Flotilla are inscribed on the memorial’s pylons.

🇺🇦⚔️🇺🇦 Everything We Know About the SBU vs. GUR Shootout in Kiev Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) and its Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) shot at each other in the street. Here's the full story, from the abduction to the political fight now exploding into public view. 🔸️The abduction (Aug 23). Stepan Kaplunov, deputy commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK) — a Russian far-right unit fighting alongside Ukraine's forces, designated a terrorist organization in Russia — says he was seized outside his home in Kiev by men who identified as police. No papers, no charges, just cuffed and shoved into a black BMW. He was moved between vehicles, blindfolded, and held for 9 days across two facilities. He says he wasn't physically tortured but was threatened with "disappearing" — and under that pressure, falsely confessed to contact with Russia's FSB. 🔸️The shootout (Sept 2). Kaplunov was brought back to his residence for an "official" search. His own RDK unit was already guarding the apartment. During the search, SBU's "Alpha" special forces tried to detain arriving, unarmed GUR officers — and opened fire on them. Between 2 and 10 GUR fighters were wounded; one reportedly died. Fighters from the GUR unit commanded by "Timur" ultimately took Kaplunov back by force. 🔸️SBU's official version. SBU claims Kaplunov was plotting, on FSB orders, to assassinate a Russian opposition figure planning to visit Ukraine for Independence Day. They released chat screenshots showing a contact offering $50,000+ per "hit" in Ukraine, funded from Russia — and a video "confession" from Kaplunov. Problem: in that video he's wearing sunglasses, despite saying he'd been blindfolded for days. SBU says he cooperated voluntarily; Kaplunov says it was extracted under threat after over a week of secret, unacknowledged detention. 🔸️GUR's response. Without naming SBU directly, GUR issued a statement warning of a "targeted campaign to discredit military intelligence," accusing unnamed actors of paying media and Telegram channels to spread the SBU narrative. It urged trust only in "verified official sources." 🔸️What's actually driving this. Ukrainian political analysts trace it to a personal feud between Budanov (Head of the Presidential Office, former GUR chief) and Poklad (acting SBU chief) — rooted in the 2022 killing of GUR-linked negotiator Denis Kireev, which Budanov blamed on people now aligned with Poklad. With Zelensky preparing to push Poklad's confirmation through the Rada, Budanov was positioned to sabotage the vote. Kaplunov's detention — explicitly targeting commander "Timur," a figure close to Budanov — reads as SBU's preemptive move to defang him first. 🔸️Zelensky's calculation. Analysts doubt SBU moved without presidential sign-off — the Prosecutor General's Office, which answers to Zelensky, has echoed SBU's version. But Zelensky has reversed course before under pressure (see: last year's law subordinating anti-corruption bodies to his office, scrapped after EU pushback). If the information war — which Budanov's camp is already winning — turns against SBU, he may quietly wind this down. Or he could let SBU go all the way, which could mean Budanov's political end. 🔸️Bottom line: This is a proxy war over who controls Ukraine's security apparatus, dressed up as a counterintelligence operation. The outcome will shape whether Budanov survives as a future presidential contender, whether Poklad keeps SBU, and whether Zelensky feels emboldened to move against NABU and SAPO next.

🇺🇦🇺🇸 The Palantir mafia grows: Fedorov launches defense-tech company backed by Alex Karp Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has announced he is creating his own defense-technology company, with Palantir CEO Alex Karp becoming its first major investor. Fedorov and Karp already have a long history. Karp traveled to Kiev in June 2022 and became the first major Western CEO to meet Zelensky after the start of Russia’s military operation. Palantir subsequently became deeply integrated into Ukraine’s war effort, providing data-analysis and AI technology for battlefield intelligence and targeting. Karp himself said in 2023 that Palantir was “responsible for most of the targeting in Ukraine,” with its systems combining battlefield information, satellite imagery and other data to identify Russian forces and potential targets.
