What was just bush on Sunday morning has now been transformed into a facility that will assist the Department of Home Affairs and the Border Management Authority in processing migrants leaving South Africa safely and in an orderly manner. Must watch - Turning South Africa into a Construction Site 🏗️📺 This month, the Department of Public Works & Infrastructure completed Section One of the R469 million Burgersdorp Correctional Facility in the Eastern Cape with this project having been significantly sped up over the last 12 months, and which is done on budget! The project significantly expands the existing facility and brings it in line with international best practice. It is a great example of what can be done by Public Works - and which we will replicate nationwide through our renewed determination and strategic interventions. 📹 Today, I attended the sod-turning event for the construction of Protea Village in Bishopscourt, Cape Town, and I look forward to returning once construction is complete. The development of Protea Village will see 86 families return to the area after being forcibly removed in the 1960s and 1970s. As the Department of Public Works & Infrastructure, we are proud to have played a role in this project by making the land available for development. Working with all spheres of government, the Department looks forward to supporting similar projects across the country as we continue to restore dignity to communities. #LetsBuildSA 💙🇿🇦
