On the 26th of September 2023, the MV Matthew was interdicted by the Joint Task Force (JTF) on Drug Interdiction. The JTF consists of the Revenue Customs Service, An Garda Síochána and the Naval Service as the lead representatives for the Defence Forces. During this operation, all three services of Óglaigh na hÉireann were deployed. The Naval Service's L.E. William Butler Yeats interdicted the MV Matthew, while the Air Corps' C295 and PC12 provided surveillance and overwatch to enable an AW139 to deploy members of the Army Ranger Wing by fast rope onto the MV Matthew to secure and take control of the vessel. These unique skillsets provided by Óglaigh na hÉireann, supported Revenue Customs Service and An Garda Síochána in making the largest drugs seizure in the history of the state. The operation represents the culmination of the constant planning and preparation conducted by our people, across all the three services of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

“Be at the Bursting Doors of Doom and in the Dark Deliver Us!” Members of the 2nd Regiment gathered last Thursday, the 4th of December, to celebrate Saint Barbara’s Day. The 4th December marks the celebration of Saint Barbara’s Day. The patron saint of Artillery. On that day in the year 267 she was condemned to death with her own father planning to carry out her execution after she acknowledged herself to be Christian. As punishment by God, he was struck down by lightning and consumed by flame akin to that of the shock and awe delivered by artillery fire on the Battlefield.

Defence Forces GAA President Major General Anthony McKenna was in attendance and said “I am delighted to be here today for the launch of the new Óglaigh na hÉireann Cumann Luthchleas Gael jerseys. The GAA and the Defence Forces share deeply rooted values of community, teamwork, and commitment, and we have always enjoyed a proud tradition of working closely together. These jerseys are a symbol not only of our partnership but also of the enduring spirit of service and pride that both organisations represent. I look forward to seeing them worn with the same dedication and passion that define both Óglaigh na hÉireann and Cumann Luthchleas Gael. Ag tacu agus ag eadroma ar gCluichi Naisiunta”. Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael Jarlath Burns said: "I am delighted to officially welcome members of the Defence Forces to Croke Park today in recognition of the long relationship our organisations share and the Gaelic games competitions they organise for their members. The cast of players they have invited here today to help with the unveiling of new Defence Forces GAA jerseys underlines the calibre of players involved and the high regard in which our games are held. The presence of members of the Defence Forces on the biggest days in our calendar, through the involvement of the colour parties, reminds us of the long and enduring links with Cumann Lúthchleas Gael and I hope this is something that continues for many years to come." #IrishDefenceForces #DefendOurState

For the 101st Cadet Class, the Platoon Attack assessments represent the culmination of their leadership and tactical training on their path to becoming Commissioned Officers. A Platoon Attack consists of a platoon advancing to contact in order to seize an objective or reach their limit of exploitation. Each platoon has 31 personnel broken into a headquarters of 4 and three sections of 9 soldiers, each led by an NCO. A Cadet under assessment as a Platoon Commander must deliver a quick set of orders and advance their platoon to contact with an opposing force (OPFOR). After having contacted the OPFOR, the Cadet must fix them in place using suppressive fire from one section, while manoeuvring a second section onto the OPFOR's position to neutralise them. With their third section held in reserve, it affords the cadet flexibility in dealing with in-depth OPFOR positions or to give another section time to consolidate before continuing their advance.
