101-YEAR-OLD GREAT-GRANDMOTHER ARRESTED AS NDLEA INTERCEPTS COCAINE IN FUFU Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 101-year-old woman for alleged drug dealing, intercepted cocaine concealed in edible cassava flour popularly known as fufu, and seized consignments of illicit drugs worth over N4.4 billion in separate operations across the country. The centenarian, identified as Esther Ogunmabo, was arrested on August 15, 2026, at Ilisan, Ogun State, with 90 grammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis, which she reportedly admitted selling in retail quantities. She told operatives that she turned to drug dealing after her provisions shop was destroyed by fire, adding that one of her daughters based in Lagos supplied her with cannabis every four days. NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), directed that she be granted bail and placed on counselling due to her advanced age, while her daughter was arrested. In Akwa Ibom, NDLEA operatives on August 21 intercepted a wooden boat conveying illicit drugs towards fishing settlements in Cameroon and arrested three suspects with 42.622kg of narcotics. The seizure included 42.06kg of skunk, 1.12kg of skunk, and 20 grammes of cocaine cleverly concealed inside a large wrap of edible cassava fufu, alongside 435 grammes of skunk. The Agency also recorded what it described as its first seizure of illicit drugs shipped from Thailand through the maritime corridor after intercepting two containers of cannabis indica, popularly known as Loud, at the Apapa and Lekki ports in Lagos. The Apapa container, declared to contain dry fish, rice, vehicle spare parts, turmeric soap and inverter batteries, contained 1,090.5kg of Thai Loud, while the Lekki container yielded 400kg. The combined street value of the consignments was put at over N4.4 billion. In the FCT, operatives intercepted three waybill packages containing 24,410 tramadol capsules inside a Hummer bus travelling from Enugu to Zuba on August 22. A follow-up operation in Niger State led to the arrest of the alleged owner, 28-year-old Sunday Eze, in Kontagora. In Ondo State, NDLEA operatives destroyed 10,000kg of skunk cultivated across four hectares at Ijare forest, Ifedore LGA, and separately recovered 210kg of skunk and a Toyota Camry at Ita-Ogbolu. Other operations led to the seizure of 1.325kg of methamphetamine and cannabis in Kwara; 4.68kg of assorted illicit drugs from a 65-year-old woman in Oyo; 73.3kg of skunk in Kano; 48kg of skunk from three family members near Seme in Lagos; and 14.4kg of Loud, 2.3kg of Colorado, tramadol and Rohypnol in Abia. The NDLEA also sustained its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaigns across schools, worship centres, workplaces and communities in several states. Marwa commended officers and men of the affected commands for the successful operations and urged them to sustain the Agency’s balanced approach to drug control through enforcement, prevention and public education.

NDLEA UNCOVERS ANOTHER INDUSTRIAL-SCALE CLANDESTINE METH LABORATORY IN OYO FOREST …Arrests Mexican, 4 others; recovers multi-billion-naira worth of illicit substances ….We’ll find you in the cities, track you into the forests, and dismantle your infrastructure of death, Marwa warns drug cartels Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have struck yet another decisive blow against transnational drug syndicates following the discovery and dismantling of a fortified, industrial-scale clandestine methamphetamine laboratory operated by a Nigerian-Mexican cartel deep within the forest of Tapa Village, Ibarapa North Local Government Area, Oyo State. The breakthrough comes barely four weeks after the Agency dismantled a similar massive meth laboratory in a forest in Ijebu East, Ogun State, signaling a desperate attempt by drug barons to turn the Southwest axis into a synthetic drug manufacturing hub. Speaking on the development at the NDLEA Headquarters in Abuja, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) who was represented by the Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi at a press briefing on Wednesday 24th June 2026, commended the gallantry, dedication, and clinical professionalism of the officers involved in the operation. According to him, “On Wednesday, 17th June 2026, tactical operatives of the NDLEA stormed a highly fortified, industrial-scale clandestine methamphetamine laboratory operating deep within the forest of Tapa Village, Ibarapa North Local Government Area, Oyo State. “This was not a rudimentary setup; it was a sophisticated, highly organized transnational syndicate. During the raid, our operatives successfully arrested five key members of the cartel on-site. They include a 56-year-old Mexican Methamphetamine expert, Jose Villa Ochoa, brought in specifically to provide the technical expertise for large-scale synthesis and four Nigerian collaborators providing logistical support, cover, and local operations. They are: Maxwell Uche Nevoh, 30; Olatunji Yusuf, 37; Bankole Akeem Owolabi, 45; and Ganiu Monsiu, 43. “The arrest of a foreign cartel specialist on Nigerian soil underscores the transnational nature of this threat, but more importantly, it underscores our Agency's world-class intelligence capability to track, intercept, and neutralize them. Following the successful raid, a specialized team from our Directorate of Forensic and Chemical Monitoring moved in on June 18th, 2026, to conduct a rigorous forensic examination of the facility. What they uncovered is a massive, factory-level production line of poison. “The laboratory was fully stocked with a frightening array of precursor chemicals, industrial catalysts, and heavy-duty processing equipment. Chemicals and Materials recovered include: Phenyl-2-propanone (P2P), which is the the main, highly controlled precursor required for methamphetamine synthesis; 1800-litre drums containing Phenylacetic acid (the primary precursor used to synthesize P2P); Two 180L drums containing a staggering 300 litres of whitish crystalline substance; Four 180L drums containing dark liquid undergoing synthesis. “Others include: 101 bags (25kg each) of Caustic Soda; 17 containers (25L each) of Sulphuric Acid; 19.5 containers (25kg each) of Tartaric Acid; 5 containers of Reniso Ultracool 68 (three 50L and two 25L capacity; 25 bottles (500ml each) of 80% Thioglycolic Acid; 2 containers (25L each) of Ethyl Phenylacetate, and 25 cartons of aluminum foil. “The Industrial Processing Equipment discovered at the site include: One (1) Reactor Pot, which is the heart of the chemical synthesis; Two (2) mounted distillation units and three (3) fabricated mixers and condensers; as well as Two (2) vegetable dehydrator machines used for the rapid drying of the crystals.

Abuja Security Crackdown: Wike Leads Raid on Criminal Hideout, Orders Demolition of Shanties The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Friday led security personnel to a suspected criminal hideout in a shanty settlement in Kukwaba District, near City Gate, Abuja, immediately after a high-level security meeting. During the inspection, the minister directed the immediate demolition of the settlement, describing it as a haven for criminals who allegedly retreat there after carrying out attacks across the Federal Capital Territory. NDLEA declares drug kingpin, 3 associates wanted, blocks N9.8billion in accounts …Secures forfeiture of multi-billion-naira fuel station, buildings, SUVs, as Marwa vows to disrupt the financial architecture that sustains drug cartels The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has declared a drug kingpin, Nnamuka Kelvin Uchenna (a.k.a Odogwu) and three of his associates: Emmanuella Chinonso Iroka; Nnamuka Ifeanyi Kingsley and Ekechi Franklin Chijioke (a.k.a Ekene Okwunaga) wanted over their involvement in the establishment of a clandestine laboratory, production of methamphetamine and drug money laundering. The suspects were declared wanted based on the order of Justice Iniekenimi Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court, Owerri, Imo state, following an application by NDLEA in suit number FHC/OW/CS/22/2026 filed before the court on 3rd July 2026. This followed the discovery of a methamphetamine producing clandestine laboratory where 18.4 kilograms of the illicit substance and other items were recovered by NDLEA operatives at Isiozi in Umuaka, Njaba local government area of Imo state on 25th February 2026. Investigations later linked the wanted suspects to the meth lab and have since then gone into hiding. Through forensic investigation of the meth syndicate by NDLEA operatives, bank accounts linked to the wanted suspects with a combined balance of Nine Billion, Eight Hundred and Forty Million, Eight Hundred and Seventy Three Thousand, Five Hundred and Sixty Six Naira, Sixty Six Kobo (N9,840,873,566.66) only was frozen while the Agency has secured interim forfeiture orders covering multibillion naira assets owned by members of the syndicate including: a filling station, multi-storey residential buildings and four Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) marked RLU 148 AJ; KJA 563 FZ; BWR 249 DY and FST 208 HU. Reacting to the development, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers and operatives involved in the operation, describing it as a clear demonstration of the Agency's resolve to dismantle drug trafficking networks and disrupt the financial architecture that sustains them. "This latest operation reaffirms our unwavering commitment to tracking down drug kingpins and their collaborators, no matter how sophisticated their network or how long they attempt to evade justice. The discovery of this clandestine methamphetamine laboratory in Njaba, and the subsequent freezing of nearly ten billion naira in illicit funds, alongside the forfeiture of a filling station, multi-storey buildings and four exotic SUVs, sends an unambiguous message that the illegal drug business is no longer a safe haven for criminals seeking to launder their ill-gotten wealth through legitimate enterprises. "I want to assure Nigerians that the Agency will not relent in going after the fleeing suspects and anyone else linked to this syndicate. We will continue to deploy financial and forensic intelligence to trace, freeze and forfeit assets acquired through drug trafficking, just as we will not hesitate to invoke the full weight of the law against fugitives who think they can hide from justice. "I appeal to members of the public with useful information on the whereabouts of the wanted suspects to volunteer such information to the nearest NDLEA office or through our confidential lines, as we remain committed to ridding our communities of the scourge of drug trafficking and its attendant social and economic harm", Marwa stated.
