The fight against the "Mexican Terror" cartels cannot succeed without confronting the corruption that enables them. Cartels do not operate in a vacuum, but they rely extensively on corrupt officials, compromised institutions, and criminal networks that facilitate drug trafficking, human smuggling, money laundering, extortion, and violence. Any serious strategy to dismantle cartel power must include aggressive anti-corruption efforts, transparent investigations, accountability for public officials who collaborate with criminal organizations, and strong international, federal, state and local cooperation. As long as corrupt actors continue to protect and profit from cartel activity, these criminal enterprises will adapt and survive. Defeating the cartels requires targeting both the criminals pulling the trigger and the corrupt officials opening the door and protecting the networks. Colombia is producing record amounts of cocaine. I'm sure they watched the amazing and heroic actions of the Department of War 🇺🇸 in VZ and are now VERY CONCERNED. The USG must also do way more to address the demand side of the drug crisis as well as getting those with addiction and mental health issues access to services immediately. Today is my last day as the DEA Acting Administrator. I’m very thankful for the opportunity I was given to serve in this position and for all the exceptional work being done on the frontlines by DEA and all their federal, state and local partners. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 The law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly with a sense of urgency and they have formed a powerful “ARMY OF GOOD TO FIGHT EVIL.” They are producing extraordinary results, cleaning up communities and most importantly saving lives. It's awesome we are hitting the terror networks hard on the supply side and I applaud the efforts of the administration. Now, at the same time, we NEED TO EDUCATE AMERICANS on the poisonous illicit drug supply, especially the younger generation in schools and on social media. We also need to provide access to treatment and mental illness since too many people are turning to drugs for help. This is a recipe for disaster, but I know once Sara A.
