If you're exhausted from the ambient noise in AI and design, I've got some soup for your soul. Andy Allen has a special point of view about what software could be. He raised $45M, did hardware + software, had a decent exit and walked away from all of it. Now he runs !Boring. Tiny team. No investors. He treats making software like a "kid in the cockpit" with his "hands in the clay". Making a calculator that feels like a game and a camera app that took 3 years to ship. This conversation with Andy was life-giving for me, and I hope you'll enjoy how refreshing his perspective is.

Just got access to wabi. In the running for most beautiful product of the year. It lets me spin up tools from the apps I already use. Created a calendar invite scheduler from my Google cal instantly. This makes a ton of sense.

This design studio poured wine on surfaces to capture texture for a WebGL experience. basement.studio is behind some of the most interesting experiences on the web. 35 people in Argentina. Nothing ships until the whole studio signs off. Their R&D lab spun off an open-source framework, a headless CMS, and a contribution to Vercel's Geist font. New State of Play episode with Jose and Facundo Santana.

After testing every AI toolchain for a year, this is the only workflow I'm endorsing: Figma → Claude Code (Sonnet 4.5) Here's how I'm building Lorelight: 1. Design the happy path in Figma 2. Feed it to Claude Code via Figma MCP 3. Get a strong foundation in 15 minutes 4. Spend the next 50+ hours iterating (still design work) The design/dev loop that used to be isolated is finally closing. I even built a complete design system in within minutes. Custom components, living documentation, accessibility rules all from the Figma designs. If you're measuring the effectiveness of these tools by whether they can "one-shot" a design, you're consuming too many AI hype commercials. Log off. Then go actually build something with your hands. With AI. With your taste. Stop trying to "one-shot" good shit. And go make stuff with the new tools. For designers who want to ship real products, this is the stack that's getting it done.
