Earlier today, we flagged off surgeons under their Association for this year’s medical camp in selected districts across the Buganda Region. I thank our surgeons for their continued dedication to serving Ugandans and for making this important initiative an annual commitment. There are many patients in need of specialised surgical services, yet access remains limited and our health facilities are often overwhelmed by the numbers. These medical camps help bring services closer to the people, ease the burden on facilities, and ensure more Ugandans can access quality surgical care when they need it.

We have launched a countrywide 10 days awareness campaign against postpartum hemorrhage (excessive bleeding after child birth) at Kigorobya HC IV, Hoima. Organized by the Bunyoro Local Maternity and Neonatal System, this event features participation from all district leaders and the Kingdom of Bunyoro. Bunyoro has faced the highest institutional maternal mortality for three years, along with performance management challenges and high teenage pregnancy rates, especially in Masindi. This awareness initiative aims to tackle these issues to improve maternal health. Thanks to the organizers, local leadership,health workers, VHTs, and community health workers for the proactiveness to reduce maternal mortality and enhance health in Bunyoro. #Bunyoro #PostpartumHemorrhageAwareness #MOHatWork

At Mpondwe boarder, we met with the Provincial MOH colleagues of North Kivu, DRC, to strengthen cross-border collaboration against Ebola. Uganda extended response efforts into Congo to bring Ebola care closer to affected communities in Congo, as patients crossing into Uganda for treatment risked spreading the virus. This proactive approach has helped prevent further imported cases into Uganda while extending support towards ending the Ebola outbreak in the DRC. #EbolaResponse #MOHatWork

I emphasised the importance of routine checkups for early detection of disease like Cardiovascular diseases i.e heart attacks and strokes, Cancers, Chronic respiratory diseases, Diabetes etc. This allows for timely management when the situation is still reversible, while late detection means late diagnosis which ends up in costly treatment, poor health, or even death.
