Pastor. Reformed. Conservative. The “D” is my first initial, doesn’t mean “doctor.”

In this clip, J.D. Greear, pastor and former president of the SBC, talks about appointing "women" and "people of color" to committees in order to provide direction and accountability for our institutions. Why? Because we can't see our "blind spots" without them. Three observations: 1. This is called "standpoint epistemology," the belief that some people have greater insight into truth because they are oppressed. It has the effect of introducing a foreign, demographic "qualification" for leadership positions while minimizing biblical qualifications. In other words, demographics supplant competence. He didn't say "white privilege" in this clip, but that's the idea. 2. This subtly implies that scripture is insufficient. The scriptures emphasize character and competence, not demographics. We need not appeal to unbiblical "diversity" standards. 3. Greaer says he prioritized this during his SBC presidency because "this really is the future." Where I come from, we call that a weathervane. We don't look to see where the demographic winds are blowing and then jump on the bandwagon to be on the right side of history. The SBC's current troubles come from this kind of unbiblical thinking and decision-making. We need sober-minded, biblical, courageous leadership in the SBC. Pastor Jared Moore is not the only faithful man in the running, but he's the one I'll be voting for.

Hidden sins can destroy a movement: " You wanna go conquer something and you've got hidden sins? God will not be with you. Harboring secret sin will ruin everything. So I remember years ago when I was at Bethlehem, one of my colleagues, whenever we would have prayer meetings for the school, he would regularly pray, 'Lord, if there are any Aikens in our camp, reveal them.'"
