Faith No More. “From Out of Nowhere.” December 1990. SNL. John Goodman introducing them here led to perhaps one of the greatest late night TV performances of all time. No punches pulled.

Rumor is that Ozzy was on such a perma high, cloud nine w/ the genius of Randy Rhoads that he became insecure — and envious — about others trying to copy his playing style, and that’s why there’s such little footage of RR. Nonetheless, behold “Mr Crowley”

1986. Cliff’s dead, Jason’s in. Metallica in a daaaark place. Toronto, as it happens. Stage manager knocks on door. Sorry boys, shorter timeslot, cut yer setlist. Fuck that. We’ll play faster. Grrr. But James, your wrist! All those downstrokes!!! IT CAN’T BE DONE 😭 James:

Robocop. 1987. 35mm scan. This trailer was cut before Basil Pouledoris had finished scoring the film — so they used another soundtrack instead [𝘐 𝘸𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘪𝘭 𝘪𝘵] and it changes the entire vibe. 🤖

Vanilla Fudge. “You Keep Me Hangin’ On.” January 14th, 1968. The Ed Sullivan Show. I share this clip [again] because it’s perfect in every way. That is all. 🙂‍↔️

#RIP Paul Di’Anno 🕊️ Just 20-yrs old when he joined Iron Maiden in 1978 and helped put them on the map — and in turn, the entire NWOBHM genre. Just kids making big noises in tiny pubs, like the Ruskin Arms…

#Primus. “Those Damned Blue Collar Tweakers.” 1994. Woodstock. This is what happens when a bass player that fails a Metallica audition for being too good… joins up with the guitarist that helped invent death metal

Heavy Metal may be the only music genre in which every single fan — no matter their individual tastes — can at least agree on 1 band: Black Sabbath.

#Metallica. “Creeping Death.” 1986. That Hetfield could play at this speed, for this duration, with all 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝘀, is incredible — how would anyone even explain that to a non-guitarist? Basically his right wrist was a genetic mutation!

Beastie Boys. “Sabotage.” 1998. T in the Park fest, Scotland. The band reminding the world of their punk hardcore roots and how even a single riff can still generate a mushroom cloud.

#Chicago. “25 or 6 to 4” 1970. Tanglewood MA. If you haven’t seen this before, you’re about to witness one of the best live solos ever. That’s Terry Kath #RIP. Hailed by Hendrix as the greatest. The fact is, some of the best guitarists are in places you’d least expect them ᯓ★

Metallica. 1986. Toronto. Ok if we’re talking greatest 1-2 song transition, here’s a contender — pay special attention to James Hetfield’s right wrist. It is a pneumatic drill. 90% Downpicking. That’s how he got the “chug” at speed. Alternate picking is best left for mere mortals
