"No foot, no horse." It’s an old saying, but every time I see a horse with overgrown hooves, I’m reminded of just how literal those words are. A horse’s hoof isn’t just a hard nail, it is a complex, shock-absorbing engine supporting over a thousand pounds of weight. In the wild, rough terrain wears it down naturally. Domestic horses, however, depend entirely on us to keep their feet balanced. When we let a hoof grow out, every single step changes. A long toe delays the foot's natural breakover, throwing severe strain onto the deep digital flexor tendon, the navicular bone, and the joints above. Imagine running a marathon every single day in shoes three sizes too long. Beyond joint strain, overgrown walls flare, crack, and tear the internal lamina along the white line. This opens up gaps for bacteria to enter, leading to painful abscesses. If Left unchecked, chronic neglect causes permanent bone rotation, severe arthritis, and agonizing lameness. Hoof management isn’t cosmetic, it is fundamental healthcare. A strict trimming schedule every 4 to 8 weeks is the thin line between a thriving horse and preventable suffering. If we care for these animals, we must care for the foundation they stand on. Because when the feet give out, everything else goes with them. Videos source: mr.hoofdoctor

Not every difficult birth in cattle requires a C-section. In this case, the cow was experiencing dystocia (difficult birth), so the calf was assisted out through manual traction. After assessing the cow and ensuring the calf was correctly positioned, the limbs were carefully secured and controlled traction was applied in coordination with the cow’s contractions. The goal is to assist delivery without causing unnecessary trauma to either the dam or the calf. A successful assisted delivery requires patience, proper positioning, adequate lubrication, and good judgement. Excessive or poorly directed traction can cause serious injuries. Another calf safely delivered! 🐮❤️ #VeterinaryMedicine #LargeAnimalMedicine #CattleMedicine #Dystocia #Calving #VeterinaryDoctor #VetLife #FarmAnimals #AnimalHealth #NigeriaVeterinarian

If you ever find yourself in this situation, here are steps you should take: 1. Stay calm. Panicking makes the dog more aggressive. Don’t try to yank the dog off it can worsen the bite. 2. Don’t grab the dog’s collar or pull the victim. This can make the dog clamp down harder.

The horn sheath is made largely of keratin, but underneath it is the living horn-producing tissue associated with the cornual process of the skull. A fracture close to the base can expose vascular tissue and the underlying horn core, resulting in significant bleeding and pain. A deep fracture can also create a route for contamination and potentially lead to infection of the horn core or frontal sinus. Common causes of horn injuries in cattle: 1) Fighting — especially between bulls or aggressive animals competing for dominance. 2)Horn entanglement — horns can become caught in fences, gates, ropes, feeders or other structures. 3)Falls and blunt trauma — a fall or collision can fracture or displace the horn. 4)Transport injuries — overcrowding, poor handling and contact with transport structures can cause trauma 5)Accidents in housing facilities — poorly designed stalls, feeding areas or fencing may catch the horns. 6) Intentional dehorning injuries — excessive tissue damage or poor technique can cause complications. 7)Horn-core fracture — severe trauma may fracture the horn close to its base, potentially exposing the highly vascular horn core.

Not all dog bites are created equal. Three breeds often mentioned in “dangerous bite” conversations are the Rottweiler, Doberman, and Pitbull. A powerful dog in the wrong hands is a weapon. A powerful dog in the right hands is a companion. As a dog owner you should: ✅Choose wisely. ✅Train consistently. ✅Socialize early. ✅Respect every dog’s boundaries. ✅Let go of Aggressive Dogs.

Do you know HUMANS are not the only ones that can have ASTHMA- CATS can too!!!! Asthma isn’t just a condition seen in people. Cats can also develop asthma, a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways that makes breathing difficult. When a cat with asthma is exposed to certain triggers, the airways become inflamed, swollen and narrowed. The muscle around the airways tighten and excess mucus is produced , making it difficult for air to move in and out of the lungs. The exact cause of asthma in cats is not fully understood, but it’s believed to be a combination of genetics and environmental allergens. Common triggers include: 📍Dust and dust mites 📍Cigarette smoke 📍Scented candle and incest 📍Air fresheners and perfumes 📍Pollen 📍Cat litter dust 📍Respiratory infections 📍Genetic predisposition (some cats are more predisposed)
