It's DECEITFUL for the voucher bill's author to suggest parity in public & private schools serving students w/ disabilities. He surely knows there are many types of disabilities that differ in nature, severity, & cost. Many private schools only admit students w/ less severe disabilities & can at any time deny services while public schools must take all & provide transparency & parental rights. Being a researcher for vouchers is like being a doctor for cancer - it's senseless. I had a chance to respond to the Governor's state of the state address yesterday. SB2 won't raise achievement, won't offer parents clear information to make decisions, & will require parents waive their children's rights/federal protections under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Large voucher programs have failed in other states partly b/c of a lack of quality control, esp when private schools pop up out of nowhere.
