Professor Eric Dyson in a new video shares that Jay Z contacted him & VIGOROUSLY disagreed with him about his criticism of the way Kendrick Lamar tried to strip Drake of his Blackness during the beef as well as the pedophilia accusations that were made against Drake. Dyson argued that Drake, as a biracial artist from the Black diaspora, is undeniably part of Black culture & that reducing Blackness to a narrow definition ignores the global scope of the Black experience. He added that while Kendrick Lamar is a brilliant lyricist, the attempt to question Drake’s authenticity reflects a problematic tendency to police who is allowed to belong in the culture. Professor Eric Dyson just posted a video apologizing to Jay Z for mentioning their private conversation. He clarifies that it wasn’t a call but a text, & that the disagreement was over the professor comparing Kendrick Lamar to Trump—Jay Z said it wasn’t that serious.
