🚨Updated NICE Guidance for managing iron deficiency anaemia due to heavy #periods. This applies to ALL age groups that are still having periods. If you are feeling dizzy, lightheaded, breathless, exhausted with your periods 🩸then you must be checked for iron deficiency anaemia. This is done by having a FBC, B12, Ferritin, Transferrin and Iron levels. We have the updated NICE Guidelines- that say EVEN if the haemoglobin (HB) is normal IF the ferritin is below 30-70ug/L with a low Transferrin Saturation (TSAT) (<20%) this indicates iron depletion/deficiency and MUST be treated with prescribed oral iron supplementation. After 6-8weeks of oral Iron, a repeat blood test is needed. If the compliance, side effects of the oral iron supplements is not tolerated or that the ferritin is not improving - request iron transfusion as well as manage the underlying cause of the heavy periods NICE: Anaemia - iron deficiency: Changes: Last revised in October 2025 🔗

Pain relief is available for gynaecological procedures in the NHS. Always question why you are NOT offered it! In the NHS, There is & should be access to topical lidocaine injection, spray, entonox, and it should be routine. For pelvic exams, never agree to put your hands underneath you to help the practitioner. This is a red flag for a wrong-sized speculum. Here ⬇️I explain why it’s a teaching & equipment issue with the practitioner and NOT you being the problem Compassion and care is a basic requirement

‼️Dont ignore these early signs of Ovarian Cancer. It is possible to detect #ovariancancer if we are picking up the symptoms early by listening to women and investigating with a transvaginal USS and CA125 blood test **It’s important to know a CA125 and a ultrasound scan can come back normal. So if the tests are normal - STILL continue to track the symptoms and depending on the symptoms, risk factors etc a referral to gynaecologist might be needed for a further investigations such as CT, MRI or a Ovarian biopsy (a procedure where a small sample of tissue from the ovary is removed to check for abnormalities, most commonly to diagnose or stage ovarian cancer)** … thankfully my patient’s Ovarian Cancer was picked up early and now is doing well - post treatment Hope this helps

Big #period clots are NOT normal but a symptom of an underlying condition. Please watch this ⤵️to find out why you can get big clots Underlying causes for heavy periods or passing large clots: #adenomyosis #endometriosis #pcos #perimenopause, blood clotting disorders, thyroid disease Anaemia is a symptom of heavy bleeding - not a diagnosis- so the underlying cause needs to be found. To check for #anaemia make sure to get a FBC, Haematinics such Folate, Ferritin, B12. Iron A Ferritin below <30g/dl is NOT normal and indicates low iron/ anaemia so get iron supplements Wellbeing of Women Pls use the free symptom checker to know if your period is normal or not?

#ME is a debilitating disease. I know my patients struggle in getting support because the research and evidence base data is scanty - but I hope using the NICE -Myalgic encephalomyelitis (or encephalopathy)/chronic fatigue syndrome: diagnosis and management - helps provide guidance of what you are entitled to on the #NHS ⤵️ #MEAwarenessDay
