Today I called upon the Government to pause, reflect, and recalibrate its ill-conceived and ideologically driven policy of introducing VAT on independent schools. This policy does not lift up education standards. To the contrary, it delivers worse outcomes for all children.

In recent weeks I’ve listened to parents in Solihull West & Shirley who are worried about Labour’s 20% VAT on private schools. For families with children who have special educational needs but no EHC plan, this policy could mean losing vital support. Labour may not see the consequences, but parents do. ⬇️
