Madonna is in the front row in Paris tonight, and for a Confessions II campaign built entirely around the dance floor, the timing could not be more perfect. She arrives in the city ahead of the special screening of Confessions II – The Film, and the Saint Laurent front row read like a guest list lifted straight from the film’s “Danceteria” sequence. Stuart Price — her co-architect on both Confessions records — was at her side. So was Arca, who co-produced the album’s opener “I Feel So Free.” And there was Debi Mazar, Madonna’s dear friend of more than forty years, who appears in the “Danceteria” segment herself — tonight accompanied by her own daughter. Kate Moss, also part of the film’s “Danceteria” cast, completed the picture — so that for a moment, the front row felt less like a fashion crowd and more like that downtown club scene reassembled in the flesh. And then, the moment fans had been quietly praying for. Off to the side, Madonna finally shared her first encounter with Connor Storrie — the Heated Rivalry star adored as much for his easy magnetism as for the role that made his name, and the young actor whose viral “Like a Prayer” dance for Interview reintroduced the song to a whole new generation. The two had both attended Saint Laurent’s January show without the cameras ever catching them together. Tonight, at last, they did.

Ahead of tonight's VMAs, the show's executive producers Barb Bialkowski, Jesse Ignjatovic, Bruce Gillmer and Van Toffler opened up about bringing Madonna back to the stage she has shaped since 1984, for her first live VMAs performance in 23 years. They heard Confessions II "super early on", before its release, and took it straight to her team. Making it happen was far from simple: they called it "a very very difficult sort of lift", with schedules, logistics, budget and travel all having to line up at once. "It all worked out," they said, crediting the hard work on both sides, theirs and that of Madonna and her team, for bringing everyone together in "this incredible moment". Their verdict on the album: "Arguably, you know, one of her best records ever." Madonna opens the show tonight, live from Los Angeles on CBS and MTV at 7:30pm ET / 4:30pm PT (00:30 UK time), streaming on Paramount+.

Madonna and Gymskin Finally Met Last Night — Live on Stream Earlier this year, British Kick streamer Gymskin — real name Jack — sent Madonna’s 1985 classic “Into the Groove” back into the UK charts with his viral “follow that tune” clip, where it peaked at number 17 in the Official Top 40. Months later, Madonna and Gymskin have finally met. And when it happened, it happened live, unedited, in front of everyone watching.
