During a recent incident, a suspect fled from officers in extreme cold, wearing clothing that put him at serious risk of exposure. With freezing temperatures, time was critical. The DRPS Drone Unit was deployed to search terrain that would have been extremely difficult—and dangerous—to cover on foot. The drone quickly located the individual, and the operator guided tactical and k9 officers directly to his location. The suspect was safely taken into custody and brought to an awaiting ambulance for life-saving medical attention. Training, teamwork and technology brought this incident to a safe conclusion.

Air1 Assists TPS in Locating Suspects in Shooting Investigation The DRPS Air1 helicopter assisted Toronto Police Service in the arrest of two suspects in a shooting investigation. On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at around 4:00 p.m., officers from Central West Division responded to the area of Thickson Road North and Taunton Road East after receiving information from Toronto Police Service that two suspects involved in a shooting in Toronto earlier that afternoon were in the area. Air1 conducted an aerial search of the area and located the suspect vehicle in a driveway of a residence in Whitby. Shortly after, the vehicle left the residence and Air1 followed the vehicle into Oshawa, providing updates to TPS and DRPS officers on the ground. At one point, the suspect got into another vehicle, which Air1 began to follow. At approximately 5:15 p.m., units were able to box in the vehicle the suspects fled on foot. Air1 followed one suspect, and he was taken into custody. At approximately 6:00 p.m. Air1 located the second suspect in a nearby playground and he was taken into custody. Officers also located a firearm and a quantity of drugs. One male from Oshawa and one male from Toronto are facing multiple charges and were held for bail hearings. To see TPS’ release: . -30-

PROJECT CARBON VIDEO RELEASE: Mohamed NAOUAI (18) is seen here stealing a truck in Durham Region in January. He was later arrested in February by another service when he was in possession of another stolen vehicle. He was placed on conditions intended to prevent him from committing further vehicle thefts. This did not stop him from attempting to steal another vehicle. The second part of the video is from early March, when DRPS officers attended a stolen vehicle in progress call. After a brief foot pursuit with our K9 Unit, NAOUAI was arrested and held for bail. NAOUAI is currently wanted for a number of other offences, including: Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence (global); Theft of Motor Vehicle x5 and Fail to Comply with Undertaking x7. This video has been edited for time, however it only took the NAOUAI a matter of minutes once he was inside the vehicle to steal it. This video clearly demonstrates the great lengths this offenders will go to in order to evade police. The get away vehicle struck a cruiser and narrowly avoided striking one of our officers. A photo of the male can be viewed at:
