Dr. Araghchi I am not a Reformist... I am a Diplomat. A diplomat must be 'national'... that is my belief... I have never interfered in domestic political currents... I may personally prefer certain individuals, but I have never let that influence my work... I am a diplomat, and only the national interests of my country are my criterion, and I move in that direction. Whoever the president may be, only Iran's national interests matter to me.

Dr. Araghchi says Iran learnt many lessons from the 12-Day War, and these lessons made us stronger and more prepared for the upcoming war... Dr. Araghchi adds that Iran gained many military lessons from the 12-Day War, as well as political lessons, but the military lessons we obtained were very significant... Dr. Araghchi says that on the 4th day of the Ramadan War, one American think-tank published an analysis stating that Iran loses between 10-25% of its missile launchers daily... and that by the end of March, Iran could would lose its capability of launching missiles... This incorrect assessment was based on their experience from the 12-Day War... They were unaware that during the eight month ceasefire, Iran had completely transformed its missile launcher systems... This was just one of the many measures taken during that period...

Dr. Araghchi says that from the moment he arrived at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the attack, he began issuing statements without interruption... I immediately began contacting the Foreign Ministers of regional countries... I knew the plan had been pre-designed: if Iran were attacked, we would target American military bases in the region... I called all the Foreign Ministers of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council countries and told all of them that we would target American military bases... I emphasised to them that this action was not against the regional countries, but against American forces stationed on their soil. Dr. Araghchi says they all protested and said such an action should not be taken... In response, Dr. Araghchi told them that "we did not start this war; it was a war imposed on us"... I also reminded them that we had informed them of this in advance... from that afternoon onward, our ambassadors were summoned in some regional countries... Dr. Araghchi reveals that on the 3rd day of the war, early in the morning, one of the region's Foreign Ministers called... (He does not specify who, but the interviewer asks whether it was the UAE or KSA to which Dr. Araghchi refuses to comment) The Foreign Minister said: In response to the attack on our soil, we will strike one of your positions at a specific time; but we do not intend to continue the conflict... He said: You should not target us anymore, and we will not take action against you either... The Americans and Israelis were also sending messages through them, making threats... Dr. Araghchi responded by warning him that if you target us, this time we will target you directly, and a war will begin between Iran and your country... He replied: So what should we do? Dr. Araghchi told him to postpone their attack until around noon... perhaps by then a solution could be reached... Dr. Araghchi: They delayed their attack... and after some negotiations, we reached an understanding that if they did not allow the American bases on their soil to be used for attacking Iran, we would not target them either... But of course, they did not abide by that... and we continued to target US positions on their soil until the end of the war... Dr. Araghchi says the reality is that none of the regional countries believed Iran could target them and they would be unable to respond... This was a major transformation and altered the security structure of the region...
