So this week I had my first major issue with my Tesla. My driver’s side daytime running light stopped working. I was worried that dealing with this was going to be a major hassle. Here’s what happened: I opened up my app, tapped service, selected my issue and uploaded a photo. Fast forward to Wednesday, Tesla mobile service came to my home, I met the technician (Hi Andrew!) outside, he swapped the entire headlight assembly and wrapped up within an hour. I didn’t even stick around, he did all the work and locked up without me. Under warranty, $0. Mobile service was fantastic, setup and tracking in App was perfect.

I’m getting more and more frustrated that Canada has the talent to make the best things in the world, but doesn’t have the wealth to see our ideas come to fruition at home. Case in point: The Las Vegas Sphere. The Sphere features an 18K resolution wraparound LED screen that measures 160,000 sq ft/15,000 m² with 166,000 speakers. It’s largest and highest-resolution LED screen in the world. The facility is what the future looks like. The company behind it? SACO. Based right here in Montreal. 300 employees. The insane videos you’re seeing? Made in Montreal! We should be building incredible structures and venues here, instead of looking with envy at SACO’s installations in Las Vegas, Dubai, or Cincinnati, to name a few. I interviewed a VP from SACO today. It’s a story that has to be told:

Tesla’s FSD has become really good at day-to-day driving, and it’s now performing like a human in very complex scenarios. Here’s video from last Friday, during afternoon rush hour. There’s a broken down pickup truck in the middle of the three open lanes in the Ville-Marie tunnel. Lights indicate that lane is closed. My car is in the leftmost lane, which suddenly also comes to a standstill, after police show up and an officer exits his vehicle and stops traffic. When it appears that the left lane will not start moving again, FSD moves my car two lanes over the right. 🤯 It then curves around a pothole in that lane, following how the car ahead handled it. 🤯 Honestly if it wasn’t for how bad Montreal roads are with potholes, I would hardly be driving myself at all.
