During CERN’s planned shutdown, the main experiments being upgraded include ATLAS and CMS, the two largest detectors on the Large Hadron Collider. ATLAS studies particles created when protons collide, helping scientists examine the Higgs boson, test the Standard Model, and search for new particles. CMS has similar goals but uses a different detector design, especially for measuring muons. Upgrading both experiments will help scientists handle many more collisions and collect better data. This could reveal rare events linked to dark matter, antimatter, and the early universe

After 50 years of the NRC acting as a de facto nuclear blockade, the regulatory dam is finally cracking, hyperscalers are pre-ordering reactors faster than anyone can build them, and the real fight has moved from asking if nuclear is even safe to how can we execute this as fast as possible. Three people shaped how I think about it now: 🇺🇸 #Concerned Citizen 🇺🇸 on why the regulatory shift is real, Packy McCormick on the data center demand driving it, and tatjana on how Montana passed Right to Compute by talking to ranchers instead of tech people. Full breakdown in the video.

By 2050 around 300 million people are expected to face routine flooding, and the United States alone is looking at seawall costs that could exceed 400 billion dollars to defend its coastlines. Terranova Laurence Allen is making the opposite bet and lifting the land itself.

The technique is called solid injection for raising ground elevation, and it's not new in theory. Engineers have used compensation grouting to lift entire buildings, including Big Ben, by pumping material underneath them. The same physics that lifts a clock tower can lift a neighborhood. Terranova just roboticized it. The robot measures the surface to 2 millimeters and switches injection wells in real time as the ground shifts.
