Today marks an important step forward for equality. I am proud to be introducing a Bill in the Assembly to ban so‑called “conversion therapy” in Northern Ireland. These cruel, archaic and harmful practices have no place in our society. No one should face harm or coercion because of who they are or who they love. This legislation is about protecting LGBTQ+ people from abuse and ensuring that everyone is respected, included, and treated with dignity. Together, we can build a fair, shared and equal society for everyone. 🌈

If there was a riot after each of the over 4,000 sexual offences recorded by the PSNI last year, Northern Ireland would be in embers. I’ve never feared attack because of the alleged crimes of other white men. Our ethnic minority community shouldn’t either. This racism must stop.

I was pleased to stand with young Irish language activists today against cuts to Foras na Gaeilge. Irish belongs to all of us. It is a vibrant part of our shared heritage and cultural diversity. It is wrong that a funding solution is being held to ransom.
