Police have arrested a man identified as Manan over allegations of sexually assaulting and killing an 18-month-old girl in Karachi’s Qayyumabad. The Woman Food Rider Who Dresses Like a Man to Work Karachi’s Streets at Night A woman who has been working as a food delivery rider on the streets of Karachi for several years rides her motorcycle for around 12 hours every day to support her four children. But the most unusual aspect of her work is that she disguises herself as a man when leaving home at night for food deliveries, so that people do not recognise her as a woman. “People look at me strangely and realise that I am a woman. They say, ‘You don’t have a husband, you don’t have a father, so why are you working?’ If I had someone to support me, would I be doing this kind of work?” she says. Mehak lives in Karachi’s Sardar Lines area and has been working as a food rider for the past six years. She says riding a motorcycle was once her passion. Before marriage, she learned to ride first a bicycle and then a motorcycle with the help of her brother. But eventually, that passion became a means of earning a living.
