I wouldn't call it bad, for one it has better animation quality the the old cartoon, there is some classic voice actors in there, but I will admit it could have used some tweaks in my view, MOSTLY music, and some designs.

for the Japanese fans who don't know, in America when dubbing this scene we replaced the music sang in the original with the star spangled banner, one of our more patriotic songs, I think it fit what G Gundam was going for and it's cheesy style is really loved by my generation.

Not really, Gerry Anderson was a HUGE influence on Anno and his generation, Thunderbirds model kits, the tv show, were all huge things for him. It's kind of a lost piece of the puzzle for some people.

a lot of people fun of Thundercats animation without actually you know...watching it. Thundercats actually was made by some major anime studios at the time and has some really good animation for a tv show of it's ilk, this arm wrestling scene also shows good direction and tension
