I was at today’s meeting and want to echo Ashley’s post: I was told an interview with CEO Ian Choudri would not be possible *if* it touched at all on the circumstances surrounding his arrest and leave of absence. To be clear, Choudri was not charged, and the board later cleared him to return. But I felt I still had to ask about the situation and whether it served as a distraction for the project. In fairness to the HSR comms team who have been very communicative, an interview with Choudri was offered to me — but limited strictly to the project itself. As a journalist, it is a tough spot to be in. Our coverage will stay focused on the business plan, but I wanted to share this context.

Assemblymember Assemblywoman Alexandra Macedo Alexandra Macedo (R-Tulare) fired back at Gov. Gavin Newsom over his trip to the Munich Security Conference in Germany. "It's 100% about presidential ambitions," Macedo said. She and other California Assembly Republicans took issue with Newsom's remarks targeting big oil. "I think it's very suspicious that he's going there to say that big oil is the reason for climate change while he's negotiating -- begging -- refineries to stay in the state of California to avoid having $8 gas because that will certainly hit his presidential election quite hard."

NOW: State workers are protesting outside the “swing space” CA Capitol office building home to the offices of most members of the legislature and Gov. Gavin Newsom. They are demanding the governor drop his order requiring most state workers to return to the office to work in person four days per week by July 1.
