In 1982, Michael Jackson was already a huge star from Off the Wall, but Thriller hadn’t even been released yet. That same year Suzuki launched a little 50cc scooter in Japan called the Love, and they brought Michael in to help sell it. There was a reason Suzuki wanted him. Honda was dominating the scooter market in Japan, and Suzuki needed somebody who could get younger buyers to notice the new Love. Michael was 23, his music and dancing were already catching on in Japan, and Suzuki knew younger buyers would recognize him. The commercials kept it pretty simple. They just let Michael do what Michael Jackson does best. He danced, they used songs from Off the Wall, and he delivered the line “Love is my message.” Just a few months later Thriller came out and Michael went from being a major star to one of the biggest entertainers in the world. Candid Camera was doing hidden camera comedy like this back in 1965. They sat a group of boys down and told them they were about to meet their new social studies teacher, Miss Darling. They tried their best to act normal while she was sitting there, then the second she walked out of the room they completely lost it. What the boys didn’t know was that Miss Darling was actually Gunilla Knutsson, Miss Sweden 1961, who also finished in the Top 15 at Miss Universe that year. The cameras just kept rolling while the boys laughed, put their hands on their heads and tried to process the fact that this woman was supposedly going to be their teacher. Candid Camera was created by Allen Funt, and the whole idea was pretty simple. Put ordinary people in a situation they weren’t expecting and see how they reacted when they didn’t know a camera was there. More than 60 years later this one still works. Bear Grylls got stung by a jellyfish and Mel B did what a lot of us were always told you were supposed to do. She peed on his hand. This happened during an episode of Running Wild back in 2016. Bear got stung on the hand and Mel B from the Spice Girls immediately went to that old remedy almost everybody has heard at some point. I actually got stung by a jellyfish myself years ago, and I can tell you, it hurts. We had vinegar with us and used that, but I always thought if you didn't have vinegar, the next best thing was having somebody pee on it. Turns out that whole peeing on a jellyfish sting thing is basically an old myth. Even Bear has said since then that it really didn't do much for him. So Mel B went through all of that for pretty much nothing. Now the real question. If you thought it actually worked and somebody you were with got stung, would you do what Mel B did?🤣

This is one of those things you have to see it to believe it🤯 On November 9, 1970, a 45-foot, roughly 8-ton sperm whale washed ashore near Florence on the Oregon coast. Three days later, the situation was getting worse. The carcass was decomposing, the smell was becoming unbearable, and curious people were coming down to the beach just to see it. At the time, Oregon’s beaches were under the responsibility of the Oregon State Highway Division, so somehow the job of getting rid of an 8-ton whale landed in the hands of highway officials. Assistant District Highway Engineer George Thornton was put in charge of figuring out what to do with something that was far too large to simply haul away. On November 12, reporters and spectators gathered on the beach to watch. KATU reporter Paul Linnman and cameraman Doug Brazil were there recording the whole thing. It did not go according to plan. More than 50 years later, the footage is still almost impossible to believe. What would you have done with an 8-ton whale you couldn’t move?

She had tickets to see Florence The Machine, but by the night of the concert, she was simply too sick to go. So the people at Hospice Austin reached out to the band. And Florence Welch came to her. Florence and guitarist Rob Ackroyd walked into Karinya’s room and gave her the concert she couldn't make it to. They sang “Shake It Out” and “Dog Days Are Over,” with Karinya singing and harmonizing right alongside them. A few months later, Karinya lost her battle with cancer at just 15 years old. But for one afternoon, none of that seemed to matter. There was just a young girl, one of her favorite singers, a guitar, a room full of people who loved her... and music. Sometimes the smallest act of kindness can become one of the biggest moments of someone's life. This is what being human is supposed to look like.🙏

On February 16, 1990, Jean-Marc Boivin jumped from the top of Angel Falls in Venezuela, nearly 1,000 meters above the ground. Boivin had been doing things like this for years. He was a French mountaineer, extreme skier and pilot, and had already made headlines for paragliding from Mount Everest. With a French television crew there filming, he became the first person to BASE jump from Angel Falls. He went back the next day to jump again. Another jumper named Catherine went before him and was badly injured, and Boivin was seriously hurt during his own descent. When the rescue helicopter reached him, he told them to take Catherine first. By the time they returned for him, Boivin had died from his injuries. He was 38 years old.

There’s something Hayden Panettiere once said about Remember the Titans that is especially difficult to hear today. Hayden was only 10 when she played Sheryl Yoast, the real-life daughter of coach Bill Yoast. In an Interview, while talking about the movie, Hayden mentioned that Sheryl had died very young. On September 10, 2024, Jon Bon Jovi was filming a music video on Nashville’s John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge when he noticed a woman standing outside the railing over the Cumberland River. He didn’t just walk past her. Bon Jovi and a woman from the production crew slowly went over, started talking to her and stayed there until they were able to help her climb back over the railing. Once she was safe, he gave her a hug and walked with her off the bridge. Nashville police later praised what they did, with Police Chief John Drake saying it takes all of us to help keep each other safe. Bon Jovi has also spent years helping people through the JBJ Soul Foundation. Since 2006, the foundation has worked with people dealing with hunger, poverty and homelessness. So he had spent a lot of time around people going through some very difficult situations before this ever happened. This says a lot about the person that he is. He was there to make a music video, saw someone who needed help, and he did the right thing.

In 1979, a man climbed into a rocket-powered Lincoln Continental and attempted to jump more than a mile across the St. Lawrence River. He had never driven the rocket car before. The stunt wasn't even his idea. Daredevil Ken Carter had spent years developing the car and preparing for the jump near Morrisburg, Ontario, even constructing a massive 1,400-foot ramp. But after years of delays and problems surrounding the project, stuntman Kenny Powers ultimately ended up behind the wheel. On October 5, Powers hit the ramp. The car was supposed to travel more than a mile. Instead, it flew roughly 500 feet before breaking apart and crashing into the river. Somehow, Powers survived, although he suffered multiple broken bones. Neither of them knew they were about to meet a four-year-old boy that Michael would help save. His name was Béla Farkas, and he desperately needed a liver transplant. Michael learned how serious Béla’s condition was and couldn’t just walk away from it. He and Lisa Marie returned to see him, and Michael promised that he would help. Through the Heal the World Foundation, Michael helped pay for the treatment Béla needed. In March 1995, the little boy received a successful liver transplant in Belgium. When Michael returned to Budapest in 1996, he went back to see Béla again. The little boy he had met fighting for his life was now six years old and doing well. The media spent years showing the world a very different picture of Michael Jackson, while stories like this rarely made the headlines. He could have visited that hospital, smiled for the cameras and made a big photo op out of it, but he didn't. Michael was a kind and gentle human being who genuinely cared about other people, and when he saw a child who needed help, he did something about it.
