When the gentle one loses his gentleness, does it really define him as a person? Brent Manalo, the Gentle-linong Heartthrob ng Tarlac, was always known as the “Wattpad or Pinterest boy” — the dream guy of many teenagers. Before he became “Brent” of High School Series, he was known as “Kalix” in University Series. Before he was a Star Magic artist, he was that cum laude guy from La Salle with good looks. And now, we’ve all witnessed his journey inside PBB. During the first few weeks, he was honest about his feelings. “There’s so many layers to who I am as a person. I don’t want to be defined just as matalino, or artista, or always pormado. Masama ugali or mabait — because I can be that today, and tomorrow I’m another version of myself. I can be emotional tomorrow, or not care about things today. I just want everyone to know that if I’m sad, I can still laugh. If I’m happy, I could be so happy that I cry.” — Brent Manalo No — he never claimed to be perfect. He has always labeled himself as imperfect and not necessarily kind. He even told his duo, Mika, once on a livestream, that while she called him “kind,” he simply considered himself empathetic. And yes, even the most empathetic people can still get mad or upset — because that’s part of being human. Despite all the bashing Brent has received since joining PBB, we all know he is not a problematic person. Imperfect, yes — but never problematic. Please, let’s stop turning him into a villain again and again. Brent’s consistency and authenticity from the 2nd nomination night to the 6th duo eviction. Brent felt guilty for nominating AZ, Ralph, and the other housemates. “Kasi Kuya, alam ko yung struggle sa showbiz, so for sure may malalim silang dahilan kaya sila pumasok dito. Tinatry nila ipaglaban yung mga pangarap nila, kaya it’s really hard to nominate for me, Kuya.” And now, with SHUKLA’s eviction, he would like to fight even harder to fight for their dreams as well. “Having gone this far, more than fighting for myself, my family, yung supporters na din — sa lahat ng mga nakasama ko dito. Like last night noong nawala si Ate Klang, Shuvee, I know may mga pangarap silang hindi na nila mapaglalaban, so yung cause nila parang cause ko na din.” Brent really took Kuya’s advice to stand with his friends during the nomination, and now he’s not just standing for them but also living and fighting for their dreams.
