Alexandra Daddario broke the internet when she did that full frontal nude scene in the first season of True Detective. But the real gem is the blu-ray release, which allowed a deeper look at a lot of the unseen nudity, including her inner labia! Proof: This level of graphic and gratuitous nudity from a mainstream actress in a mainstream series is mostly a relic of the past, but HBO are still getting their actresses naked every now and then, so a return to form isn't entirely off the cards. A man can hope, right?

Victoria Pedretti had her nude scene debut recently in Forbidden Fruits, and this seems to have flown under everyone's radars. A never-nude actress finally getting naked on screen should be a call for both celebration and encouragement. The muted reception is dangerous to the cause. Jodie Comer had the same awkward silence from the audience when she finally did a topless scene in The End We Start From (2023) and then never did a nude scene again. This bad ending should be avoided at all costs.

Carey Mulligan had a great full frontal nude scene in 2011's Shame by Steve McQueen (yes, the 12 Years a Slave guy). Tasteful sprig of bush, hint of labia, and plenty of boobage make for a good end result. Also, for a movie about sex addiction, all of Carey's nudity was non-sexual in nature, which is a nice sort of foil to Michael Fassbender's character.

Erin Cummings should have had way more screen time in Spartacus. Yes, I know it was impossible because of her character's story, Sura literally dying in the first episode, but she is just so relentlessly beautiful, and you know, this being back in the glory days, that more screen time automatically means more nudity. I didn't hate House of Ashur, but I was hoping that they'd recapture lightning in a bottle the way they did with Blood and Sand and Gods of the Arena, but alas, it was not to be. Starz, it's never too late and there's never reason to give up. You know what audiences want, so stop pretending you don't with this coy stuff already. I'm not angry; I'm just disappointed.

India Eisley letting it all hang out in Look Away (2018). These nude scene are all great, but their graphic and gratuitous nature is actually historic. Look Away is one of the last movies to be released before the Hollywood nudity drought, a state of affairs that I'd optimistically reported was ending a few times but still seems to be going strong. For those that don't understand the significance, I'll put it this way: Look at these clips. Look at the year this movie was released. Realize that as recently as this, this was a perfectly normal and expected level of nakedness to see in a movie and it wouldn't have generated any particular buzz for it in the way that Anora did, for example. (And Anora wasn't even that graphic.)

Anyone else not entirely mind the heatwave? Yes, it's stifling and humid and there's no air conditioning, but there are ways to enjoy it. Like watching Chemistry and pretending that it's you playing strip poker with Ana Alexander. Still one of the best shows ever on Cinemax.
