Field Documentation | Armed Syrian Civil Defense Member Appears on Live Broadcast - Aleppo Date: January 9. 2026 Location: New Syriac Quarter - Aleppo Footage from a live broadcast on a pro-Damascus channel showed an armed member of the Syrian Civil Defense, affiliated with the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management of the Syrian Interim Government. During the live broadcast, the member was seen carrying a pistol while covering clashes in the area, before quickly concealing his weapon upon realizing he was being broadcast live. This constitutes a violation of the neutrality standards and obligations of civil defense in conflict zones, according to international humanitarian law.

Example of the misinformation practiced by some media outlets An example of the misinformation practiced by certain media outlets to incite against our forces and the residents of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh in Aleppo. In this footage, the reporter claims that a sniper affiliated with our forces is targeting him, while right behind him, armed members of the Damascus government can be seen walking and moving normally, showing no signs whatsoever of gunfire or any immediate danger in the area. We consider the broadcasting of such footage a form of media manipulation aimed at incitement and stirring discord against our peaceful community.

Civilians، mostly children, women, and the elderly took shelter inside Khaled Fajr Hospital in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo, believing it to be a safe place, before the hospital was subjected to direct artillery shelling by factions and militias affiliated with the Damascus government. The targeting of Khaled Fajr Hospital constitutes a clear war crime, particularly as the hospital had been explicitly listed on targeting maps previously published by the so-called “Ministry of Defense,” amounting to a public admission of prior intent to target medical facilities.
