In total, five people have now been confirmed dead following the three days of protest in #Togo. Two of them were found in the lake, their bodies riddled with gunshots. This is not new. Togolese soldiers have long used this brutal method: killing and dumping bodies into lakes or the ocean to erase the traces of their crimes. Today is a day of mourning in Togo. We mourn our fallen heroes. We grieve for the lives stolen, for the families shattered, for the pain inflicted on a people who simply want to live in dignity. We thank our martyrs for their courage, for their sacrifice, for daring to stand where others were forced to kneel. We are heartbroken; we are devastated. All we asked for is freedom, justice, and dignity and yet, the regime answered with bullets and blood. Last night, soldiers stormed homes, dragging people out in the dark and arresting them. The number of persons missing has now passed 200. Families still don’t know where their loved ones have been taken. But we will not relent. We will not rest until our brothers and sisters get justice. We will not stop until our people are free. We know this struggle will be long and painful but we are ready. For every Togolese dictator Faure Essozimna GNASSINGBÉ kills, thousands more will rise. We will match their violence with our determination, their cruelty with our unity. Thank you, Africa 🙏🏾! Thank you to everyone around the world standing with us 🙏🏾! Your solidarity gives us strength. Togo will be free ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾🇹🇬! #Fauremustgo #FreeTogo
