“It’s costing us about $1,500 of cash per day to run 2 tractors.” Ohio farmer says skyrocketing input costs are hammering American farmers. “I spent many years buying potash for $90 a ton, and now it’s $670 to $700 a ton.” “Our big problem is the input costs.” “I haven’t seen anything this bad since the 1980s.”

This farmer just said the quiet part out loud. “I was nothing more than a serf on the land.” “A chemically-addicted farmer beholden to all these large ag conglomerates.” “Monsanto.” “Big seed companies.” But Kevin Fulton escaped. He transitioned his Nebraska farm to an organic, regenerative operation in 2002. “I can’t tell you how good that feels to not have all those gorillas on your back.” Now, he’s warning that pesticide companies are threatening to put countless farmers at risk with their push for a federal liability shield from lawsuits over harms caused by pesticides. “We have to be able to… stand up against them and have some type of recourse if there’s damages.” The stakes could not be higher as Congress debates the 2026 Farm Bill. The House voted to strip the pesticide liability shield out, but it’s still unclear if the Senate will vote to put it back in. And on top of that, Congress must decide if this Farm Bill will provide vital support for farmers to transition from conventional pesticide and chemical farming to regenerative practices. Regenerative farming protects human health, restores soil health, and empowers farmers to keep their profits out of the hands of Big Ag corporations that treat them like serfs on their own land. This Farm Bill is a pivotal moment for independent farmers. Read our new blog below to find out how Congress can empower farmers and how you can make your voice heard:🧵

Erin Brockovich is sounding the alarm on the impact data centers are having on rural communities' water supply. “These big data centers are coming into rural areas of farmland where a lot of people are on their own well water.” “They report a reduction in water pressure. Their water is just dripping into a bucket.” “They’re very concerned that they could lose their aquifers, and they could literally be out of water.” As AI drives a massive data center boom, many rural communities are raising concerns about depleted aquifers, falling water pressure, and growing strain on local water supplies. Rural families should not be forced to compete with massive corporations for access to clean water and other essential resources. Erin Brockovich

Trump 2024: “We’re going to get toxic chemicals out of our food supply” Trump 2026: “Glyphosate is critical to national security” A new Executive Order doubles down on the same system that bankrupted farmers, monopolized the food supply under the control of a few multinational corporations, and contaminated America’s food system. We cannot eliminate glyphosate overnight. But we should be taking steps to reform this broken system, not doubling down on it. The fact that U.S. agriculture has become so reliant on glyphosate should scare us into immediate, dramatic reform of our food system. Trump’s declaration that “glyphosate-based herbicides are a cornerstone of this Nation’s agricultural productivity and rural economy” exposes deep structural problems in our food system: Our over-reliance on chemicals and herbicides to produce more and more commodity crops is bankrupting our farmers and rural America. This broken system is the reason we are in a crisis today where over 60 farmers go out of business a day, and the rest require constant federal bailouts just to survive. Trump also claimed in his EO that glyphosate-based herbicides allow “farmers and ranchers to maintain high yields and low production costs.” But the opposite is true. Farmers have lower production costs and higher profits when they reduce or eliminate their use of glyphosate and other herbicides. Keeping them reliant on herbicides only benefits the pesticide industry. Finally, Trump’s claim that glyphosate enables farmers to produce “healthy, affordable food” could not be farther from the truth. The science that alleged glyphosate is safe was retracted after the paper was exposed for relying on false information that came directly from Monsanto. This Executive Order is bad news for independent farmers and MAHA.

Farmer Joel Salatin just sounded the alarm. Billionaires and massive corporations like BlackRock, Vanguard, Monsanto, and Bill Gates are buying up all of America’s farmland. Here’s why this fight will define our children’s future: Salatin: “Half of America’s farmers are 60 years old.” “In the next 15 years, half of all America’s agriculture equity—land, buildings, machinery—is gonna change hands.” “Who’s it gonna go to? Bill Gates, Monsanto, BlackRock, Vanguard?” “Or is it going to be going to a new generation of young, bright-eyed, bushy-tailed entrepreneurial land acquirers?” “We have to allow these thousands of young farmers that I meet every year in America ready to access their neighbors with retail dollars … a seat at the table.” Joel Salatin

A farmer warns the Strait of Hormuz crisis is already driving up the cost of fertilizer and fuel. And says Americans should expect higher prices long term because of it. “Nitrogen in general and fuel both spiked because of the war.” “We’ve exposed ourselves pretty heavily to whoever it is that produces our nitrogen.” “We’re two months away from where we usually lock in nitrogen at a cheaper price.” “It’s through the roof right now because of this Strait of Hormuz deal.” “We’re anticipating not only higher prices right now, but probably higher prices for quite a long time.” “Everything I produce on this farm gets shipped out by truck.” “Diesel fuel down the road's $5.70, and those trucks get about six miles to the gallon.” “This is gonna inevitably affect everyone.”

President Trump is reportedly planning a massive handout to two Brazilian billionaires at the expense of American ranchers. Meet the Batista brothers. They own JBS, the largest meatpacking company in the world. Their rise was fueled by rampant corruption, bribery, and fraud. And they directly brokered Trump’s new plan to lower tariffs on imported beef in a vain attempt to lower the cost of beef. Make no mistake: This plan would not actually lower prices for consumers. It would drive even more American ranchers out of the market, directly reward the Batista brothers’ criminal enterprise, and further consolidate the beef industry. JBS has already paid “hundreds of millions of dollars in fines for price gouging consumers at the grocery store.” Trump has now reportedly delayed the plan, which is a sign the pressure is working. But this fight is far from over. Hear Farm Action President Angela Huffman break down the endless scandals that define JBS: “JBS bribed more than 1,800 Brazilian politicians to secure the money they needed to begin buying up meat packing competitors in the US.” “Then, they bribed meat inspectors to allow them to sell and export rotten and tainted meat around the world.” “They’ve been caught tampering with scales to cheat America’s farmers and ranchers out of the real value of their cattle.” “They’ve racked up hundreds of violations for workplace safety, employment discrimination, unfair wages, and environmental abuses.” “No one would want to work with a company like JBS.” “But because they’re so dominant, there are parts of the country where farmers have no choice but to sell their livestock to them.” Angela Huffman

RFK Jr. warns there’s a major crisis looming: Not enough young people are entering farming. “A lot of farmers are going out of business.” “We’re having a hard time finding young people who will go into farming.” “That is a crisis that we need to keep into consideration.” Secretary Kennedy

“Four grocers control 85% of the grocery market.” “Four meatpackers control 85% of meatpacking.” “Two seed companies control 90% of the seed genetics in farming.” “Three big [companies] control 85% of the inputs.” “We’ve allowed the consolidation of just about every industry to the detriment of the consumer.” Regenerative farmer Zach Lahn is calling for strong and swift antitrust action to break up Big Ag monopolies. “Community values, according to our ancestors and according to our Founders, were more important than shareholder value.” “Thomas Jefferson actually said in the early 1800s, right after they founded the country… I hope we kill in its infancy the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations who are already challenging us to a battle of wills.” “And in the 80s, we really took our eye off the ball.” “Now, we’re facing the repercussions of that.” Zach Lahn Leah Wilson

“We’ve lost 86,000 cattle feeders like me.” “Over half of our cow-calf producers are gone.” Farmer Mike Callicrate just delivered an urgent plea to Congress: “Break up the corporate middlemen who are extracting an unfair share of the retail dollar while denying a fair income to producers and workers.” “Since I first got into the cattle industry in 1972, retail meat prices have become increasingly disconnected from cattle prices as monopolistic middlemen push producer prices lower and consumer prices higher.” “The producers’ share of the consumer dollar is now around 50% in beef, down from around 80% in 1970, when we had a lot of independent meat packers all over the country working with independent grocery stores.” “What can be done?” “We need to reform USDA’s meat inspection service to make it more workable for small processing plants.” “Invest in local regional food infrastructure and outlaw government purchasing of meat from large, multinational and foreign-owned corporations.” “That business should go to small and mid-sized slaughter plants, keeping the wealth from agriculture local, creating jobs, and revitalizing rural communities.” “We’re now relying on imports at a time when dietary guidelines are re-emphasizing high quality protein.” “Small plants like mine need fair food policy.” “Small processors have essentially no access to wholesale markets due to unfair advantages and predatory practices of big food companies.” “It’s past time to enforce antitrust laws and break up the meat monopolies like Congress did in the 1920s.” “Otherwise, consumer prices will remain disconnected from prices paid to producers, and will likely keep rising.” Mike Callicrate

Farmers are sounding the alarm after President Trump said he will continue allowing China to buy American farmland. “We’re a stronger nation when we continue to have our own production and our own stewardship of ground that’s owned by domestic farmers.” “Food security is national security.” “America's farmers are some of the most productive and efficient in the nation.” “And that’s done when American farmers own the ground that they grow food on.”

“They treat Iowa land like it’s a commodity instead of our inheritance.” “They treat us like numbers, not neighbors.” Republican nominee for governor, Zach Lahn, says investors are buying up Iowa farmland and pricing the next generation of farmers out of the market. “Our young people are leaving faster than 46 other states because they don’t see enough opportunity here.” “Wall Street hedge funds and foreign interests are buying and selling our land.” “Driving up costs so our kids are priced out of the market.” Zach Lahn

“Today, 63 farmers will go out of business.” “Farmers are going broke.” “At the same time as … families can’t feed their kids.” “Yet across agriculture and food sectors, dominant corporations are posting record profits.” Farm Action’s Joe Maxwell delivered an urgent call to break up corporate monopolies in our food system at a roundtable hosted by Chuck Schumer. The problem is much, much worse than you think. “When I began farming in 1980, the top four beef packers controlled about 36% of the cattle.” “Today, it’s 85% of the fat cattle.” “There were 56 fertilizer companies.” “Today, there’s three dominant ones.” “They use supply chain disruptions to gouge the consumer and take advantage of the farmer.” “And these farmers will be coming here and asking for another bailout from Congress, fourth time in just a little over a year.” “Companies themselves acknowledged at the time and filings with the SEC that a large share of their pricing is not tied to their cost, but how much a farmer gets paid.” “The more bailout money you give the farmers, the more the input companies are gonna charge.” “That’s how monopoly power works.” “We also need to confront the role of commodity checkoff programs.” “These programs were created to support farmers.” “But today, a large share of mandatory farmer funds flows into marketing and policy influencing the Congress.” “They primarily benefit the processors and dominant firms.” “For more than four decades, both parties have actually allowed the sliding towards monopoly control.”

🚨“President Trump’s plan to buy beef from Argentina is a betrayal of the American rancher.” Washington bureaucrats are on the brink of delivering a crushing betrayal of our farmers—and the America First agenda. America’s soybean market just CRASHED after China stopped buying our soybeans. Now, our cattle ranchers are on the brink of the same fate. Illinois cattle rancher and Farm Action’s Senior Director of Programs Christian Lovell warned that a new plan to buy Argentinian beef would amount to a “betrayal” of loyal America First ranchers—and would fail to solve any of our problems: “Importing Argentinian beef would send U.S. cattle prices plummeting—and with the meatpacking industry as consolidated as it is, consumers may not see lower beef prices either.” Just four major meatpackers control roughly 85% of our market. The system is RIGGED, and importing beef from Argentina into this rigged system will not lower costs for families or restore fair markets for producers. This announcement comes right after Argentina took hold of the soybean market after China stopped buying from American farmers. And what is Washington doing? Considering another $20 billion BAILOUT for Argentina. Read our full press release revealing why this proposal is a BETRAYAL of America’s ranchers below:🧵 Clip credit: Aaron Rupar

Farmer Mike Callicrate exposed that the USDA has been completely corrupted by the big meat packers for decades. “We’ve had leadership like Almanza, [who] let rotten meat in the United States and then went to work for the guys that provided it, the Batista Brothers with JBS.” “We’ve never had leadership from the … USDA that did not work for the big meat packers.” And he revealed how USDA meat packing inspectors largely serve corporate interests, not public health. “I’ve been under inspection for a long time.” “The whole system was designed to hurt small plants.” “[Small plants] need to be rescued right now.” “There’s a small plant at Springfield, Missouri right now that’s got $2.5 million worth of debt.” “We gotta build local, regional.” “The end is near.” Mike Callicrate

Farmer Rick Clark took a brave stand against Big Ag. “No herbicides.” “No insecticides.” “No synthetic fertilizers.” He’s living proof that farmers can succeed without Big Ag’s chemicals. "I made a stand that we are not going to involve our team members [or] family members and put them in contact with these chemicals." "We are now going into our 12th year on the farm.” "Do we win the yield contest at the county fair?" "No." "Are we profitable?” “Are we safe?" "Yes." “That, to me, is all that matters." "When I started to look down the family tree of my heritage, [there was a lot of] cancer [and] diabetes." "Why is this happening?" "We've got to increase nutrient density." "We've got to make our products healthier and safer for the consumer to eat." “We've got to make it healthier and safer for the farming community." Heritage Foundation

This farmer just revealed how mega corporations “dominate the market” and drive their competition out of business. Cesar Mora grows fruit on a 70-acre farm in California. But when he tried to find retailers to sell his product himself, the “big marketers” immediately came in and undercut his prices. “They will find a way to eliminate your business.” “And they’ve done that to me.” He feels that his only option is to sell his product to the big marketers to take his product and sell and ship it themselves. But then, those companies take all the profits for themselves, leaving him struggling just to keep his operation alive. Countless independent farmers and growers like Mora are trapped in the same broken system across America. Which is why the 2026 Farm Bill currently being debated in Congress is a pivotal bill for them. Congress has a choice: They can either strengthen the farm safety net for growers like Mora by expanding access to crop insurance and other risk management programs, increase federal investment in independent growers, and strengthen support for diversified production. Or they can double down on the current system in which the food system is concentrated in the hands of a few mega corporations mass producing commodity crops that don’t even feed us. Our new blog shares Mora’s story and breaks down why this year’s Farm Bill is a critical opportunity to save independent farmers and growers. Read below:🧵

“We could transform the entire food industry” with one simple change. Zen Honeycutt said the USDA and Defense Department are two of the largest purchasers of food in the U.S. For decades, that money has rewarded the biggest corporations and the most centralized supply chains. But that money could support independent farmers, healthy food, and local economies. Leveraging food procurement to support independent farmers and build a more competitive food system is one of Farm Action’s top priorities for the 2026 Farm Bill, which Congress will soon be voting on. Honeycutt: “If we change how we procure our food, and we focus on American food first, and we focus on non-toxic, nutrient-dense food, we could transform the entire food industry just by focusing on the military and school lunches having non-toxic, nutrient-dense food.” “Farmers would have a guaranteed market.” “It wouldn’t be unsure, like, is China gonna buy our soybeans this year or not?” “We could be growing real food here in America with support from the government.” And you can take action right now to urge Congress to re-direct food procurement funds away from corporations and toward independent farms. It only takes 2 minutes. Use our link in the reply below to help us fight for a fair 2026 Farm Bill with just a few clicks:🧵 Zen Honeycutt

“People expected reform, but instead they’re seeing the same system being protected.” Farm Action President Angela Huffman says a growing rift is emerging between MAHA and the Trump administration. It centers on issues like the administration defending Bayer in court as the company seeks immunity from harm caused by its products. “There’s a very real gap right now between what people were promised and what’s happening.” “The MAHA movement has raised concerns about chemicals in our food and our environment, but the administration is now backing glyphosate.” “They’re supporting Bayer in court.” “They’re pulling back support for healthier farming practices that would assist farmers in getting off of this chemical treadmill.” “That’s why there’s this tension here now.” NewsNation
