We're farmers fighting for accountability from the government and the largest food and ag corporations.

“They're in there right now, the Department of Justice, arguing on behalf of Bayer to take away our right to be protected from those chemicals.” The Trump administration says it wants to Make America Healthy Again, but behind closed doors it is fighting for foreign corporations to have immunity when their products harm Americans. That is not MAHA. That is not America First. We deserve better. Washington Examiner

Iowa farmer Zach Lahn says Big Ag has raked in billions while lobbying against the interests of farmers. “Over the last 10 years across America, we’ve lost 100,000 family farms.” “During that same time, the top 5 agriculture companies have made $150 billion in profit, and they’ve lobbied Congress to the tune of $1.5 billion.” “Who are they lobbying for? It’s not the farmer.” Zach Lahn

This farmer just said the quiet part out loud. “I was nothing more than a serf on the land.” “A chemically-addicted farmer beholden to all these large ag conglomerates.” “Monsanto.” “Big seed companies.” But Kevin Fulton escaped. He transitioned his Nebraska farm to an organic, regenerative operation in 2002. “I can’t tell you how good that feels to not have all those gorillas on your back.” Now, he’s warning that pesticide companies are threatening to put countless farmers at risk with their push for a federal liability shield from lawsuits over harms caused by pesticides. “We have to be able to… stand up against them and have some type of recourse if there’s damages.” The stakes could not be higher as Congress debates the 2026 Farm Bill. The House voted to strip the pesticide liability shield out, but it’s still unclear if the Senate will vote to put it back in. And on top of that, Congress must decide if this Farm Bill will provide vital support for farmers to transition from conventional pesticide and chemical farming to regenerative practices. Regenerative farming protects human health, restores soil health, and empowers farmers to keep their profits out of the hands of Big Ag corporations that treat them like serfs on their own land. This Farm Bill is a pivotal moment for independent farmers. Read our new blog below to find out how Congress can empower farmers and how you can make your voice heard:🧵

Trump 2024: “We’re going to get toxic chemicals out of our food supply” Trump 2026: “Glyphosate is critical to national security” A new Executive Order doubles down on the same system that bankrupted farmers, monopolized the food supply under the control of a few multinational corporations, and contaminated America’s food system. We cannot eliminate glyphosate overnight. But we should be taking steps to reform this broken system, not doubling down on it. The fact that U.S. agriculture has become so reliant on glyphosate should scare us into immediate, dramatic reform of our food system. Trump’s declaration that “glyphosate-based herbicides are a cornerstone of this Nation’s agricultural productivity and rural economy” exposes deep structural problems in our food system: Our over-reliance on chemicals and herbicides to produce more and more commodity crops is bankrupting our farmers and rural America. This broken system is the reason we are in a crisis today where over 60 farmers go out of business a day, and the rest require constant federal bailouts just to survive. Trump also claimed in his EO that glyphosate-based herbicides allow “farmers and ranchers to maintain high yields and low production costs.” But the opposite is true. Farmers have lower production costs and higher profits when they reduce or eliminate their use of glyphosate and other herbicides. Keeping them reliant on herbicides only benefits the pesticide industry. Finally, Trump’s claim that glyphosate enables farmers to produce “healthy, affordable food” could not be farther from the truth. The science that alleged glyphosate is safe was retracted after the paper was exposed for relying on false information that came directly from Monsanto. This Executive Order is bad news for independent farmers and MAHA.

President Trump is reportedly planning a massive handout to two Brazilian billionaires at the expense of American ranchers. Meet the Batista brothers. They own JBS, the largest meatpacking company in the world. Their rise was fueled by rampant corruption, bribery, and fraud. And they directly brokered Trump’s new plan to lower tariffs on imported beef in a vain attempt to lower the cost of beef. Make no mistake: This plan would not actually lower prices for consumers. It would drive even more American ranchers out of the market, directly reward the Batista brothers’ criminal enterprise, and further consolidate the beef industry. JBS has already paid “hundreds of millions of dollars in fines for price gouging consumers at the grocery store.” Trump has now reportedly delayed the plan, which is a sign the pressure is working. But this fight is far from over. Hear Farm Action President Angela Huffman break down the endless scandals that define JBS: “JBS bribed more than 1,800 Brazilian politicians to secure the money they needed to begin buying up meat packing competitors in the US.” “Then, they bribed meat inspectors to allow them to sell and export rotten and tainted meat around the world.” “They’ve been caught tampering with scales to cheat America’s farmers and ranchers out of the real value of their cattle.” “They’ve racked up hundreds of violations for workplace safety, employment discrimination, unfair wages, and environmental abuses.” “No one would want to work with a company like JBS.” “But because they’re so dominant, there are parts of the country where farmers have no choice but to sell their livestock to them.” Angela Huffman

“We’ve lost 86,000 cattle feeders like me.” “Over half of our cow-calf producers are gone.” Farmer Mike Callicrate just delivered an urgent plea to Congress: “Break up the corporate middlemen who are extracting an unfair share of the retail dollar while denying a fair income to producers and workers.” “Since I first got into the cattle industry in 1972, retail meat prices have become increasingly disconnected from cattle prices as monopolistic middlemen push producer prices lower and consumer prices higher.” “The producers’ share of the consumer dollar is now around 50% in beef, down from around 80% in 1970, when we had a lot of independent meat packers all over the country working with independent grocery stores.” “What can be done?” “We need to reform USDA’s meat inspection service to make it more workable for small processing plants.” “Invest in local regional food infrastructure and outlaw government purchasing of meat from large, multinational and foreign-owned corporations.” “That business should go to small and mid-sized slaughter plants, keeping the wealth from agriculture local, creating jobs, and revitalizing rural communities.” “We’re now relying on imports at a time when dietary guidelines are re-emphasizing high quality protein.” “Small plants like mine need fair food policy.” “Small processors have essentially no access to wholesale markets due to unfair advantages and predatory practices of big food companies.” “It’s past time to enforce antitrust laws and break up the meat monopolies like Congress did in the 1920s.” “Otherwise, consumer prices will remain disconnected from prices paid to producers, and will likely keep rising.” Mike Callicrate

“Today, 63 farmers will go out of business.” “Farmers are going broke.” “At the same time as … families can’t feed their kids.” “Yet across agriculture and food sectors, dominant corporations are posting record profits.” Farm Action’s Joe Maxwell delivered an urgent call to break up corporate monopolies in our food system at a roundtable hosted by Chuck Schumer. The problem is much, much worse than you think. “When I began farming in 1980, the top four beef packers controlled about 36% of the cattle.” “Today, it’s 85% of the fat cattle.” “There were 56 fertilizer companies.” “Today, there’s three dominant ones.” “They use supply chain disruptions to gouge the consumer and take advantage of the farmer.” “And these farmers will be coming here and asking for another bailout from Congress, fourth time in just a little over a year.” “Companies themselves acknowledged at the time and filings with the SEC that a large share of their pricing is not tied to their cost, but how much a farmer gets paid.” “The more bailout money you give the farmers, the more the input companies are gonna charge.” “That’s how monopoly power works.” “We also need to confront the role of commodity checkoff programs.” “These programs were created to support farmers.” “But today, a large share of mandatory farmer funds flows into marketing and policy influencing the Congress.” “They primarily benefit the processors and dominant firms.” “For more than four decades, both parties have actually allowed the sliding towards monopoly control.”

This farmer just revealed how mega corporations “dominate the market” and drive their competition out of business. Cesar Mora grows fruit on a 70-acre farm in California. But when he tried to find retailers to sell his product himself, the “big marketers” immediately came in and undercut his prices. “They will find a way to eliminate your business.” “And they’ve done that to me.” He feels that his only option is to sell his product to the big marketers to take his product and sell and ship it themselves. But then, those companies take all the profits for themselves, leaving him struggling just to keep his operation alive. Countless independent farmers and growers like Mora are trapped in the same broken system across America. Which is why the 2026 Farm Bill currently being debated in Congress is a pivotal bill for them. Congress has a choice: They can either strengthen the farm safety net for growers like Mora by expanding access to crop insurance and other risk management programs, increase federal investment in independent growers, and strengthen support for diversified production. Or they can double down on the current system in which the food system is concentrated in the hands of a few mega corporations mass producing commodity crops that don’t even feed us. Our new blog shares Mora’s story and breaks down why this year’s Farm Bill is a critical opportunity to save independent farmers and growers. Read below:🧵
