What Jayden Daniels did at the end against the Giants looked very intentional. It’s time to bench him. Keep him on the bench. And move on after this season. They trashed his locker when he left ASU, he obviously doesn’t have a good relationship with LSU, evidenced by what we saw this past offseason…his offensive line just walked away from him this season when he was injured in Dallas. In terms of his performance— He can’t stay healthy, he’s becoming less and less accurate (ESPN 2024: 69.0%, 2025: 60.6%, 2026: 60.5%), and his throwing process is becoming slower and slower (PFF time to throw, 2024: 2.95 seconds, 2025: 3.06 seconds, 2026: 3.16 seconds). He’s obviously not trending in the right direction. The problem is he was overhyped and over-drafted. He was thrust into a role in the NFL he showed at LSU wasn’t sustainable. This is the danger of overhyping and over-drafting prospects. It just sets them up to fail. This is what happens when a third-round valuation gets selected in the first-round. He was a backup prospect to begin with and sooner than later that’s what he will be in the NFL. “Great college QB who has the skill set of an ideal NFL backup,” those were my final pre-draft words on Daniels in this evaluation: 🎥

Another bad sign for Fernando Mendoza. 7/8 throws vs. Patriots were 9 yards or less (PFF) and his time to throw has actually gotten slower than it was in the preseason. His time to throw with these mostly short passes against the Patriots was 3.16 seconds (PFF). His time to throw in the preseason against backups and vanilla pass coverage was 3.02 seconds (PFF). 📉 🎥

It doesn’t surprise me in the slightest that Caleb Williams was walking around during the National Anthem before the Eagles game on Monday Night Football. He has done everything in his power to get out of structure since he was in college. He did everything he could to not adhere to the NFL’s processes pre-draft. He refused to throw at the NFL Combine. He chose not to undergo medical testing at the Combine or to share his medical records with all 32 teams (Bleacher Report). Pre-draft, “Williams and his family sought ways to potentially circumvent the draft process, going as far as consulting with lawyers to find a loophole in the collective bargaining agreement and weighing the idea of joining the UFL instead.” (Fox Sports) His dad Carl Williams “met with labor lawyers and agents to come up with a way to circumvent the system.” (NBC Sports). “The rookie cap is just unconstitutional,” Carl Williams told Wickersham. (NBC Sports) Williams waited right before the start of his rookie camp to sign his rookie deal (July 16, 2024). Bears rookies were scheduled to report that day. He does anything and everything he can to rebel against the system. When it comes to playing, he craves getting out of structure. That’s why he holds the ball so long. He has to do it his way. He doesn’t like to just drop back and get the ball out of his hand on schedule. Oh no, not Williams… He’s had one of the slowest times to throw in the NFL in 2024, 2025 and 2026. Per PFF: College: 2021: 3.52 seconds 2022: 3.24 seconds 2023: 3.17 seconds NFL 2024: 3.03 seconds 2025: 3.24 seconds 2026: 3.70 seconds Williams LOVES getting out of structure. He CRAVES getting out of structure. That’s why him walking around during the National Anthem should not surprise anyone. It’s who he is.

Winning without Caleb Williams is proving to the Bears and Ben Johnson that they don’t need Caleb Williams. The Bears can go draft another college quarterback on a rookie deal just like they did when they didn’t want to pay Justin Fields and they can allocate their resources to continue to build the team. It’s not going to be that hard to replace a quarterback with a career NFL completion percentage of 60.5% who has a career NFL average time to throw of 3.17 seconds (PFF). It’s not going to be that challenging to replace a quarterback who’s thrown 60.0% (2026), 55.4% (2025), and 58.7% (2024) of his passing attempts 9 yards or less (PFF). Those are Williams numbers. As a former NFL Scout, I believe Johnson will be willing to sacrifice sporadic and lucky end of game attention seeking heroics for a quarterback who will play within the structure of his offense. In one game, rusty off the bench, 38-year-old NFL journeyman quarterback Case Keenum completed 70.6% of his passes in Johnson’s offense. Keenum is on his 9th NFL team. He hadn’t started an NFL regular season game in 1,009 days. And he wasn’t just playing against anybody. Keenum did what he did against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Bears need to trade Williams this next offseason for whatever someone is willing to give for him and move on. 🎥

Shedeur Sanders isn’t running a 40 at the #NFLCombine —so as a former NFL Scout, I did the next best thing —I timed him running 40 yards during a game two years ago to see how fast he is. I got 5.37 seconds. I timed him with a stopwatch from his first step at the 50 until he reached the 10. What time did you get? I had to go back two years because Sanders only has one run in his 4 year college career over 40 yards on his ESPN stats page —and it was in this game when he played for FCS Jackson State vs. Southern in 2022. The record for the slowest time at the NFL Combine for a quarterback according to the USA Today is 5.37 by Ryan Mallet.

As a former NFL Scout, Caleb Williams has been exactly what he was at USC this preseason —elite athlete, but an average passer 57% vs. Bills and 46% vs. Bengals. 50% overall completion percentage (10/20). I said pre draft “There’s nothing generational about him as a passer.”

Caleb Williams is an emotional rollercoaster who will never be able to give Ben Johnson the level of consistency that he needs out of the quarterback position. “Williams is too undisciplined, moody, and immature to ever realize his potential,” those were some of my pre-draft words about Williams in this evaluation:

This isn’t the flex Shedeur Sanders thinks it is. I’ve studied 22 of his games at Colorado —once he’s beyond the line of scrimmage he’s an average looking runner with average football speed who only took what college defenses gave him to take.

My best advice to the Bears is not to rush Caleb Williams return to the lineup. Why? Williams was in noticeable discomfort prior to the play he got injured in the 4th quarter. At the end of the 3rd quarter, I was concerned something was wrong with his back after the two shots he had taken (one looked like whiplash). The look on his face at the end of the 3rd quarter said it all. When he went down on the non-contact injury in the 4th quarter, I immediately thought back to what I was seeing with Williams earlier in the 3rd quarter. Chicago Bears NFLPA 🎥

As a former NFL Scout, I’ve watched Shedeur Sanders in these three games against the Ravens, Raiders, and 49ers, and it doesn’t look like he belongs in the NFL. It became obvious in the 4th quarter against the 49ers, when he was put in a situation of needing to make plays (down 23-8 with 11:00 minutes to go) and the game looked too big for him. What do I mean by that? • He tended to hold the ball too long • He tended to choose to throw to the most conservative (short) option —tended to make the most conservative throwing decisions (his throwing decisions did not match the game situation). He seemed more concerned about creating and protecting his stats rather than trying to aggressively attack downfield and put his team in a position to win. He had one intermediate passing attempt (11-yard gain to Jerry Jeudy) and one deep passing attempt (Isaiah Bond incomplete) in the field of play during the 4th quarter. • It did not look like he was seeing the field well. Then on that last drive —Sanders put himself in that 4th and 26. He created that situation by taking an 11-yard sack on 2nd and 10 instead of throwing to an open underneath receiver in his line of vision on the play. Then to make things worse a couple plays later on that 4th and 26—he quit. FILM CREDIT
