Consumer Complaint Resolution Report Mrs. Esther Olasantan, a businesswoman from Isolo Community, Lagos State, purchased a carton of fish on January 30, 2026. Unfortunately, the fish became spoilt after purchase. Upon reporting the issue to the cold room management, she was informed that neither a refund nor a replacement would be provided for the damaged goods. Subsequently, she was referred to the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), Ikeja Office for intervention. The General Manager of LASCOPA, Mr. Afolabi Solebo Esq., invited the cold room management for a mediation meeting. Following deliberations and resolution of the matter, the cold room management agreed to refund the sum of ₦180,000, being the cost of the fish, and an additional ₦20,000 as compensation to Mrs. Olasantan. This intervention ensured fair redress and reinforced consumer protection rights. Babajide Sanwo-Olu Obafemi Hamzat Gbenga Omotoso Gboyega Akosile Bajulaiye Olanrewaju Barr. My name is Engineer Peter Obidike, a beneficiary of the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA). Recently, I transported goods valued at ₦10 million from Abuja to Lagos through a well-known transport company. During the offloading process, one of the items was accidentally dropped and damaged. The affected item was worth ₦2.5 million Upon discovering the damage, I promptly contacted the transport company to seek redress. However, all my efforts to get them to accept responsibility and resolve the issue were unsuccessful. Consequently, I reached out to LASCOPA for intervention. The Agency responded swiftly and handled the matter with professionalism and efficiency. I am pleased to state that I have now received a full refund for the damaged item. I sincerely appreciate LASCOPA for their prompt support and effective intervention. I also commend the Lagos State Government for establishing an agency that truly protects and stands up for consumers. “As custodians of tradition, we must uphold values that protect our people. In Iwaya Kingdom, it is forbidden for any man to force himself on a woman who does not accept his love." "ONLY ANARCHISTS WILL SAY LAGOS IS A NO MAN’S LAND" - OMOTOSO The Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso has said that only anarchists say that Lagos is a no man’s land because there are no empirical facts to support such a bogus and vacuous claim, nor can it be validated through any available record. The battle to straighten the records is therefore between archivists who are trained in the art of record keeping and preservation, and anarchists who make sweeping and unsubstantiated claims. Omotoso made the observation recently at an event organised by the Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB) at its Magodo Office to commemorate World Archives Day, adding that there is a lot to be done to protect the state's heritage. He said the battle for the protection of our heritage has to be fought on two fronts; number one is technology, the other is ideology. The second challenge is what I call the question of people who claim that Lagos is a no-man’s land. There is no empirical fact to support this bogus and vacuous claim, nor can it be validated through any available record. So the battle in my own view is between archivists and those who lay claim to this notion of no man’s land, who are in my own view anarchists. The Honourable Commissioner opined that we must leverage technology to make our various archival materials accessible to the public and keep them in the consciousness of our people. “We are talking about Lagos here, all the beautiful buildings that we have, all the things that our Kabiesis and royal fathers are preserving for us, none is showing here. It is because we are not in control of the technology. I think we need to join the world in using technology to show what we are capable of doing, what our forefathers did, and the kind of future that we are confident that our children will have”. Commending LASRAB officials for a job well done while encouraging them to keep the flag flying, Omotoso promised that the State government will ensure that the bureau gets the required resources to fight all those anarchists in the technological front, such that the power of technology can be deployed to the story of Lagos and deepen it. Also present at the event were the Head of Service, Lagos State, Mr. Olabode Agoro; the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal; representative of the Oba of Lagos, the Opeluwa of Lagos, Chief Lateef Aderibigbe Ajose and Erelu Abiola Dosumu, Erelu Kuti of Lagos, amongst others. The IBILE Culture Badagry Diaspora Festival From Pain to Power: A Celebration of Return! The Badagry Diaspora Festival is a powerful act of reconnection and healing. It's a homecoming for the descendants of those who were taken, a bridge across the Atlantic built on rhythm, dance, and shared spirit. The festival is a vibrant affirmation of life! It's the sound of the drum calling us home, the sight of kinfolk reuniting, and the joy of reclaiming a connection that was never truly broken. It's a testament to the unbreakable spirit of the African people. The Badagry Diaspora Festival features the sacred Zangbeto masquerades and the drumming of the Sato drums, among other cultural displays. The festival is a celebration of the history and heritage of the Ogu (Egun) people and the symbolic reconnection between Africa and its diaspora. It’s a vital pilgrimage for anyone seeking to understand the full story of the African diaspora. It’s about healing, learning, and celebrating our colective strength.
