Aaliyah’s 20th birthday on MTV for her special video countdown, mentioning that her 3rd album would be out in 1999. It was said that over 30 songs were lost during the “Are You That Somebody” era from a hard drive failure. Her next album would instead become her last in 2001.

It’s been 25 years without Aaliyah but the world hasn’t stopped loving and missing her any less since. She was only 22 and would have gone so much further but gave us 3 classic eras of innovative style and music. RIP and Happy 47th Birthday baby girl 🕊️

Aaliyah talks the power of music and describes herself (2001): “Almost like transcendental meditation. You can go to so many different places… Strong but at the same time, there’s a softness about her. I give both sides of the spectrum.”
