Only in New Orleans would you find four skeletons singing Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence” on the front porch of a 134-year-old Victorian house. This is Ghost Manor at 2502 Magazine Street, and there's quite a bit of history behind it. The house was built in 1892 after a massive fire destroyed much of the surrounding neighborhood. More than a century later, David Gentry and his family moved in and decided the old place needed a few ghosts. It started in 2012 with a single ghost floating between the upstairs windows. Gentry, a software engineer, kept experimenting with lighting, sound, projections, and eventually animatronics. By 2016, he'd added four singing skeletons, each programmed to move its head and jaw in time with the music. Today, the house puts on an elaborate Halloween production with dancing zombies, flying ghosts, singing skeletons, and dozens of illuminated pumpkins. The entire performance is synchronized, and people gather on the sidewalk to enjoy it. What I really like is that this isn't some commercial haunted attraction. It's a private residence, and the family has spent years building something for the neighborhood to enjoy. New Orleans already has quite a reputation for ghosts, cemeteries, and haunted old houses. I suppose having a skeleton quartet singing on your porch fits right in. Would you stop and watch these guys perform? I certainly would.

In May 2016, 15-year-old Karinya “Yaya” Chen was in hospice care in Austin, Texas after years of fighting cancer. She had tickets to see Florence The Machine, but by the night of the concert, she was simply too sick to go. So the people at Hospice Austin reached out to the band. And Florence Welch came to her. Florence and guitarist Rob Ackroyd walked into Karinya’s room and gave her the concert she couldn't make it to. They sang “Shake It Out” and “Dog Days Are Over,” with Karinya singing and harmonizing right alongside them. A few months later, Karinya lost her battle with cancer at just 15 years old. But for one afternoon, none of that seemed to matter. There was just a young girl, one of her favorite singers, a guitar, a room full of people who loved her... and music. Sometimes the smallest act of kindness can become one of the biggest moments of someone's life. This is what being human is supposed to look like.🙏

Did Disney borrow from a cartoon that came almost 30 years before The Lion King? In 1965, American kids were watching Kimba the White Lion, based on the work of Japanese manga legend Osamu Tezuka. Then The Lion King arrived in 1994, and people started noticing some pretty strange similarities. Kimba and Simba. A young lion who loses his father. A wise baboon. A bird companion. Hyenas. An evil lion with a scar. Even imagery involving the dead father appearing in the sky. The similarities caused a real controversy in 1994. Disney denied Kimba was an influence, and Tezuka Productions ultimately said The Lion King was a different and original work. I remember The Lion King, but I had no idea about the Kimba controversy for years. Watch this clip, and I’ll let you decide.

Dave Chappelle had the audience roaring during his 2019 Netflix special Sticks & Stones when he recalled a conversation with Comedy Central's Standards and Practices department. While working on Chappelle's Show, he was told there was one word he couldn't say. Renée: "You can't say the word f*****." Dave: "Why not?" Renée: "Because you're not gay." Dave: "Well, Renée, I'm not a n***** either." Dave Chappelle had a way of taking controversy and turning it into some of the funniest comedy he ever produced. He could take a subject nobody wanted to touch and have an entire audience laughing about it.🤣💀

There’s something Hayden Panettiere once said about Remember the Titans that is especially difficult to hear today. Hayden was only 10 when she played Sheryl Yoast, the real-life daughter of coach Bill Yoast. In an Interview, while talking about the movie, Hayden mentioned that Sheryl had died very young. She was just 34. Hayden was 36. Two young women, connected by a role that introduced so many of us to Hayden more than 25 years ago. Sometimes there really isn’t anything more to say. Rest in peace, Hayden.

Daniel Radcliffe was trying to film one of the quietest scenes in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban when Alan Rickman and Michael Gambon decided to have a little fun with him. They were filming the Great Hall scene with all the students sleeping in bags on the floor. Daniel had asked director Alfonso Cuarón if he could be placed next to a girl he fancied, which made what happened next even worse for him. A fart machine was hidden in Daniel’s sleeping bag, Michael Gambon had the control, and they waited until everyone was deep into this long, serious take before setting it off. The sound echoed through the Great Hall and the cast completely lost it. Daniel later said he first thought one of the other kids was messing around and they were all going to get in trouble. Nope. It was Dumbledore and Snape setting him up in front of the girl he liked. 😂 Getting embarrassed in front of your crush is bad enough. Having Alan Rickman and Michael Gambon behind it is another level.💀😅

This is one of those things you have to see it to believe it🤯 On November 9, 1970, a 45-foot, roughly 8-ton sperm whale washed ashore near Florence on the Oregon coast. Three days later, the situation was getting worse. The carcass was decomposing, the smell was becoming unbearable, and curious people were coming down to the beach just to see it. At the time, Oregon’s beaches were under the responsibility of the Oregon State Highway Division, so somehow the job of getting rid of an 8-ton whale landed in the hands of highway officials. Assistant District Highway Engineer George Thornton was put in charge of figuring out what to do with something that was far too large to simply haul away. On November 12, reporters and spectators gathered on the beach to watch. KATU reporter Paul Linnman and cameraman Doug Brazil were there recording the whole thing. It did not go according to plan. More than 50 years later, the footage is still almost impossible to believe. What would you have done with an 8-ton whale you couldn’t move?

Candid Camera was doing hidden camera comedy like this back in 1965. They sat a group of boys down and told them they were about to meet their new social studies teacher, Miss Darling. They tried their best to act normal while she was sitting there, then the second she walked out of the room they completely lost it. What the boys didn’t know was that Miss Darling was actually Gunilla Knutsson, Miss Sweden 1961, who also finished in the Top 15 at Miss Universe that year. The cameras just kept rolling while the boys laughed, put their hands on their heads and tried to process the fact that this woman was supposedly going to be their teacher. Candid Camera was created by Allen Funt, and the whole idea was pretty simple. Put ordinary people in a situation they weren’t expecting and see how they reacted when they didn’t know a camera was there. More than 60 years later this one still works. In 1982, Michael Jackson was already a huge star from Off the Wall, but Thriller hadn’t even been released yet. That same year Suzuki launched a little 50cc scooter in Japan called the Love, and they brought Michael in to help sell it. There was a reason Suzuki wanted him. Honda was dominating the scooter market in Japan, and Suzuki needed somebody who could get younger buyers to notice the new Love. Michael was 23, his music and dancing were already catching on in Japan, and Suzuki knew younger buyers would recognize him. The commercials kept it pretty simple. They just let Michael do what Michael Jackson does best. He danced, they used songs from Off the Wall, and he delivered the line “Love is my message.” Just a few months later Thriller came out and Michael went from being a major star to one of the biggest entertainers in the world. In 1964, Anthony Hopkins composed a beautiful waltz called And the Waltz Goes On. It was never performed, and over time the sheet music was forgotten. Nearly 50 years later, his wife found the music and sent it to conductor André Rieu, who arranged for it to be performed in Vienna in 2011. Imagine spending decades believing something you created would never be heard... then sitting in the audience as it comes to life for the very first time. It's a reminder that not every dream happens when we want it to. Sometimes life has its own timing. What's a dream you've held onto, no matter how long it's taken?

The delivery driver was simply trying to do his job, but instead of minding her own business, she decided to interfere because she didn't approve. Nobody appointed her the neighborhood authority. Most of us know Slash as the wild-haired guitarist from Guns N' Roses, usually wearing his trademark top hat and sunglasses with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. What you might not know is that David Bowie was once a part of his childhood, and it's a fascinating little piece of rock and roll history. Slash was born Saul Hudson in London in 1965. His mother, Ola Hudson, was a talented African American fashion designer who worked with some of the biggest names in music, including John Lennon, Diana Ross, and David Bowie. During the 1970s, Ola designed clothing for Bowie's Thin White Duke period. Those sharp, tailored suits and waistcoats were part of the look Bowie became famous for during that time. Somewhere along the way, their professional relationship turned romantic, and Bowie started spending time around the Hudson family. Slash's parents had separated by this time, and he wasn't too happy about his mother's relationship with Bowie. He was still a young boy trying to deal with his parents splitting up, and having another man in his mother's life didn't sit well with him. Years later, in a 1991 Rolling Stone interview, Slash talked about how much he resented Bowie during those early years. Bowie even remembered putting young Slash to bed at night, something he mentioned in a 2002 interview. It's pretty funny picturing David Bowie, one of the biggest rock stars in the world, doing something as ordinary as tucking a little boy into bed. Slash eventually got past his childhood resentment, and he and Bowie became friends as adults. Two of the most recognizable musicians in rock history, with a connection that started long before Slash ever became famous. Bowie's "Golden Years" seemed like the perfect song to go along with this little piece of rock and roll history. Turn up the volume and enjoy!

Bear Grylls got stung by a jellyfish and Mel B did what a lot of us were always told you were supposed to do. She peed on his hand. This happened during an episode of Running Wild back in 2016. Bear got stung on the hand and Mel B from the Spice Girls immediately went to that old remedy almost everybody has heard at some point. I actually got stung by a jellyfish myself years ago, and I can tell you, it hurts. We had vinegar with us and used that, but I always thought if you didn't have vinegar, the next best thing was having somebody pee on it. Turns out that whole peeing on a jellyfish sting thing is basically an old myth. Even Bear has said since then that it really didn't do much for him. So Mel B went through all of that for pretty much nothing. Now the real question. If you thought it actually worked and somebody you were with got stung, would you do what Mel B did?🤣

Only Dolly Parton could end up on a planet full of women with enormous breasts and be the one they made fun of for being too small. 😂 On April 15, 1989, Dolly hosted Saturday Night Live and was also the musical guest. One of the sketches that night was called “Planet of the Enormous Hooters.”🤣 Dolly is brought before the queen of a planet where every woman is ridiculously well-endowed. They take one look at Dolly and decide she’s the strange one because hers are too small. To them, Dolly is the odd one out. They call her “deformed,” joke that her breasts are only the size of melons, and eventually decide to send her to Earth, where they figure nobody will even notice how small she is. Dolly completely commits to the joke. That’s what makes it work. She could laugh at herself, deliver a comedy sketch, act, sing, write songs and somehow make all of it look natural. For all the laughs and music, Dolly’s legacy was never just entertainment. she helped put millions of books into the hands of children with her imagination library. Music, movies, comedy, charity... Dolly really could do just about everything.

Never judge a book by its cover. In 1965, the Righteous Brothers released their unforgettable recording of “Unchained Melody,” with Bobby Hatfield delivering one of the most beautiful vocal performances in music history. More than 60 years later, people are still finding ways to make this song their own. These three might not look like what you'd expect when you hear a song like this, but just listen to them sing. I've heard a lot of versions of “Unchained Melody” over the years, and this is honestly one of the most beautiful renditions I've ever heard. Sometimes the most incredible talent comes from the people you'd least expect.
