Another petition calling for a general election has just passed 110,000 signatures — and it will almost certainly change nothing. Why? Because petitions, as they’re used today, have become pressure-release valves, not tools of accountability. People are told: “Just wait for the next election.” But elections alone don’t fix a system that ignores grievance.
