Back in 2011 at The Kessler, Josh Weathers covered “I Will Always Love You” and changed his life. That one Dolly Parton song took him to inaugurations, the Grand Ole Opry and helped fund charitable work around the world. Arguably the greatest cover ever captured in Texas.

The year was 2010. A young Oklahoma band rolled into Houston to play Firehouse Saloon. Most of the crowd didn’t know what they were seeing. Glad we did. Not long after, they played Galleywinter River Jam. Before the arenas they were just another band chasing a dream.

Some years back Robert Duvall stopped off at the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco. He was in awe of the place and voluntarily cut this promo for them. Off the cuff he delivered the coolest museum testimonial of all time. “Gus and Woodrow would have really liked this place.”

“Let the English play Hamlet…I’ll play Lonesome Dove and Augustus McCrae.” - Robert Duvall We posted this when Duvall passed away earlier this year. It’s time to reshare in light of the news of this Netflix remake. No other person can portray Augustus McCrae. Leave it alone.

Josh Weathers cover of “I Will Always Love You” is perhaps the most infamous cover to ever come out of Texas Music. It’s taken him around the world. First recorded as seen here in 2011 at the Kessler in Dallas. It’s still as amazing as ever. He still plays it at every show.

What a week for Gruene Hall. Last night, Marcus King was joined by Gary Clark Jr, Ray Wylie Hubbard and Lucas Hubbard. They performed a little ditty called “Snake Farm”.

July 2004. France. Randy Rogers Band playing “Tommy Jackson.” Same guys then as now. Fun fact: Randy once confirmed to Galleywinter that the Pam & Tommy lyric WAS inspired by Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee. This is where Texas Music lives.

Doug Sahm and Augie Meyers gave the world a timeless groove with “She’s About a Mover.” That organ riff still fires up parties and jukebox battles today. Doug Sahm. Augie Meyers. This is Texas Music.

Gus gets all the love and rightfully so. But Uncle Hub in Secondhand Lions is special as well. Here Duvall tells Haley Joel Osment’s Walter what’s really worth believing in. There’s a reason this film was the first thing we turned on when we get home tonight.

Oct 10, 1989: Stevie Ray Vaughan’s 2nd and final ACL. Mid-“Look at Little Sister” he breaks a string, swaps guitars flawlessly and just keeps ripping. The smoothest exchange ever proof of his genius. God bless SRV and Rene Martinez the guitar tech.
