The year was 2010. A young Oklahoma band rolled into Houston to play Firehouse Saloon. Most of the crowd didn’t know what they were seeing. Glad we did. Not long after, they played Galleywinter River Jam. Before the arenas they were just another band chasing a dream.

Some years back Robert Duvall stopped off at the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco. He was in awe of the place and voluntarily cut this promo for them. Off the cuff he delivered the coolest museum testimonial of all time. “Gus and Woodrow would have really liked this place.”

Josh Weathers cover of “I Will Always Love You” is perhaps the most infamous cover to ever come out of Texas Music. It’s taken him around the world. First recorded as seen here in 2011 at the Kessler in Dallas. It’s still as amazing as ever. He still plays it at every show.

Jerry Jeff Walker would be 84 years old today. So much of what we do and enjoy around Texas/Red Dirt can be immediately traced back to Jerry Jeff and what he started in the 70s. He was a master. At writing a song. At raising hell. At entertaining a crowd. And surviving it all.
