One-liner comic. New tour Gary on Laughing is on the road.

The Uncle Derek joke. I spent over a decade tinkering with the wording of this joke but finally figured it out just before my first live at the apollo in 2017. So here it is. I was surprised i was allowed to get away with it. New tour Gary on laughing is on the road.

This is a too rude for TV gag that was in my first special years ago but I was never happy with the recording of it. I slightly fluffed pronouncing the word ‘orchid’ and telegraphed the punchline. It still worked as its a good gag but it could’ve been better. So rerecorded last week in Norwich to set the record straight Orchid is the pivot word. It has to be pronounced in the listener’s story one time frame or it telegraphs the gag. That doesn’t matter if the pivot is also the reveal word ie at the end of the joke but it matters a lot when its in the middle. My new tour Gary On Laughing is better constructed than the first four and is happening now.

I could tell my wife was having affair. Another joke from a work in progress show that didn’t make it in my new tour Gary on Laughing. I think this is a really funny idea and I’ve tinkered with it for years but i think this is as good as i can get it so im letting it go here. If you can do it better let me know in the comments. The nee tour is full of the jokes that did make it and is really good.

This is another joke from my first live at the Apollo. As a club comic from 2000 - 2013 I wrote a club set of bankers like this that I later used on Mock the week and Live at the Apollo. There were all in my first two specials. Since then I’ve written and toured plenty more. My fourth tour will be released as a special later this year. My third tour was ended by the pandemic but im salvaging old clips and re recording bits and bobs. My fifth tour is happening now. I think it’s my best jokes yet.

Grandad nearly died. This is a joke from Work in Progress show Otley Courthouse last December. I did about 30 of these to write my new tour show. Many hundreds of jokes were goof but didn’t make the cut for the tour, like this. I’ve done lots of variants on this gag and never really got it where I want it. If you think I was too harsh or thinks you have a better take on it let me know.

Rejected jokes - Passive aggressive Grandma. This is another joke that I think is really funny but hasn't made the cut for my 2026/27 tour as it wasn't consistent enough. Here's me testing it out in Cardiff video was made my own editing purposes hence weird angle. If you like this why not come along and see the finished product next year. Dates on sale this autumn. Work in progress shows on sale now. My website has a handy mailing list too

Gary in Punderland 297 and first time The Civic - Brierley Hill Brierley Hill. A proper Black Country crowd tonight. Lots of fun and filth. Ace support was Andy ‘not on Twitter’ Robinson. Thanks to everyone who came.

Gary in Punderland 255 was the last of the week and second Cov one. This time RialtoPlaza a great new venue with a fabulous up for it crowd. I’m always tired by Sundays so it’s nice when the crowd carry you through on their energy. Andy Robinson great as support again.

Gary in Punderland 371 and a third night The Leadmill in Sheffield. Always a riot here and the crowd were fantastic. I was a bit tired and giddy with far too much freewheeling plus managing to still be on the toilet when ace support Alun Cochrane introduced. In the second half I also got upstaged by a fly on the projector. In summary a delight.

Gary in Punderland 279 and first ever show @redditchpalace. A century old music hall venue (older ones are always the best) with a fabulous crowd of big laughers and Andy Robinson as support banging out some new bits that killed. A great start to the gigging week. Thank you.

The A40 joke. This was just a silly joke I’d make in the car but it eventually became a bit. This was in my first special and tour years ago. My new tour Gary on Laughing is happening now.

An apology from the venue. This is a joke technique I call a Mr Mahood and i learned from Ken Dodd and Les Dawson (Edith is 111) There is no announcement. There is a chance to check your new material cheat sheet. New tour Gary on Laughing is currently on the road.

All weekend I’ve been getting message about the sad death of The Duchess of Kent, asking if I’ll be attending the funeral etc. For new followers this video explains why. Never make a mistake on a panel show. Mock the Week records were typically about three hours long. The mistakes, rubbish and unbroadcastable stuff were then edited out to make us look good. Occasionally however a really good mistake was left in like this one. This episode ended up being my most popular episode of Mock the Week even though it’s mostly at my expense. Dave TV repeated it about once a week for years. If I was on repeat fee for this appearance I’d probably live in Monaco myself. In the recording of this episode Josh had made some silly mistake early on and was getting a little gentle ribbing for it when I valiantly rode to his rescue with a much bigger mistake of my own. It was also the episode where I did the dentist joke which was probably my most popular gag on Mock. At least aside from the actual stand up bits from my old act that I’d sneak into the ‘Wheel of News’

This was one of my club jokes from the mid 2000s that later i got to do on TV and use in a special. I go into the writing process for this joke in great detail on the comedian’s comedian podcast. If you’re into joke stuff that bit of it is worth a listen. The rest you can probably skip, thats the good bit

When I made a mistake on Mock the Week at least I only got rinsed by the other comics. In Belfast the audience join in too. This was me on The Blame Game. My new tour Gary on Laughing is playing Belfast Ulster Hall, Dublin Vicar street and a bunch of other places.

My girlfriend says I’m not very romantic. Six one-liners from my first special ‘Comedy Club Classics 2000-2013’. It’s basically my old club sets from the noughties that i later used in TV spots and is free to watch in full. My new show Gary on Laughing is on the road now.

The book of the dead. This is a quite a cute silly joke from many years ago. Yes its an Evil Dead reference and yes theres a typo. Sorry, subtitlers find Latin even more confusing than English English. New tour Gary on Laughing doesn’t have any horror themed jokes in. In real life I love that stuff though.

Gary in Punderland 302. First time Torch Theatre 🎭🎬☕️ in Milford Haven. An absolute delight of a crowd and and a really fun night with lots of winging it and mucking around and a four generation family on the front row where I could watch the rudest jokes being explained in real time to the youngest. Andy Robinson was on fine form as support too.
